Re: Opinions on the collectibility of this Gibby

Original list was 1999.00, which probably made its street price around 1200?? so Im not sure its exactly a cheaper one, definetly not your boring typical SG. Thought it might have some potential. Im not a fan of the SG body style at all, so I may pass on it anyway. Just curious of others opinions.

Re: Opinions on the collectibility of this Gibby

1200 is the cheaper end of gibson. Not studio cheap but not collectible. Basically they made those fr9om scraps of wood that would otherwise be thrown away. Aside from the $10K signature stuff you aren't going to get a great return on most stuff. The real collectors want real vintage lps (not a 1992 "omg its 20 years old so now it's vintage" guitars). Gbson's bread and butter is RIs, limited edition custom shop pieces and high end limited sgnature models.

^No, $300 is the cheap end of Gibson. Ever played a melody maker?

And I bet these things sound like crap. If you think about it, these are made out of glorified plywood,

Re: Opinions on the collectibility of this Gibby

I haven't much experience with Rickenbacker, but aren't they basically plywood as well ? (or is that just a myth perhaps that I've heard but isn't quite true)

Re: Opinions on the collectibility of this Gibby

$1200 is still the lower end, your in the studio area there. Im well aware they have guitars under that price, but it's still at the lower end in the whole field of Gibsons.
