Opinions on USRG30

Howdy all.
I have owned two USRG30s for a while now (my first for 11 years and my second for about 6 years..hooray ****!). Apart from the physical damage sustained by both from an upset ex-wife, theyre really quite pretty. However, as i develop an ear for tone, etc...well, i dunno. Do they sound a bit loose and hollow to anyone else? Now, to be fair, im fairly gear-stupid, and it may be me. Lemme explain; I play my blue USRG straight thru my old Marshall VS100 with the stock Tone Zone/ PAF Pro pickups. Fairly weak tone, to be honest. My low end is weak, with no clarity, and my highs are a bit too thin. I switched the same Dimarzios out of my other USRG to EVO 2s. Some difference but not really. Conversely, my Les Paul with stock Burst pickups sounds big, fat and tight.
Yes, i know, apples and oranges, but MAN what a difference. Considering i paid about the same for all three, i expected more! Basically, how do YOUR USRGs act? sound?

Help a guy out!

Re: Opinions on USRG30

I found mine to be a little boxy sounding but I wouldn't say thin. To be honest I always thought of them as tight and clear not thin. Sure they sound thin compared to my les paul but all my guitars do except maybe my suhr. I think they are just different. They are clearer than my J custom and more complex than my old RGs. They sound more like my jacksons which makes sense they are all alder. Really I alway found the valvestates to be thin. and I would put more blame there than in the guitars. After all pauls sound think in everything.

Re: Opinions on USRG30

i loved mine , the neck's profile is what got me . it was a different shape then a wizard 1 or 2 , a little strat like dare i say .

i had a super distortion and air zone in it , then put an air norton in the neck and then a paf pro with the super d then took put a steve's special in it and then i sold it .

it sounded a little bright , the neck and body seemed to resonate a lot more then other guitars i have had i thought it was just me though .

as far as thin , it never sounded thin but i always liked more of a brown sound so i usually boosted the bass , and always kept the presence lower on my amp .

i am thinking it is the valvestate .

Mine looks, plays, and sounds spectacular. It's hard to make alder sound bad imo. It really cuts, and has a solid midrange, and great bottom end (alder makes good 7s). It's also quite dynamic, and articulate when alt. picking. I'm considering an Evo or Steve's Special for different (Evo + alder = )
It has a Super Wizard rather than the original PBC neck, though I've always wanted to try one of the PBCs. Other than that it's stock, and I love it .

I appreciate your input, all! I KNEW Marshall had it out for me. I wasn't planning on selling these guitars ANYway (the damage done by the ex really is appalling) but i didnt want these just SITTING there unplayed.

Re: Opinions on USRG30

I put an air norton in my USRG30 neck and later replaced the tone zone with a breed bridge that I had lying around - It sounds full and crisp to me.
Also, a year ago I sanded down the neck to thin it out - It worked out well and hasn't broken yet

Because it would be so awesome that it will cause reality to collapse into itself.
