Question Opinions on wood wanted for project

Hi all,
Ok, I posted this is the tech section first but had no replies so I figured I would try here aswell
My main guitar is an ash UV copy with a tonezone7 in the bridge which I love. The sound is very fat and bottomy, especially when compared to my basswood/blaze UV. So what I would like to do is make a UV body out of another wood for the blaze pickup'd UV. I want to use the blaze pickups still and use a wood that would make this UV sound fatter then the basswood body currently does (in the hope that it will sound closer in tone to my ash/tonezone UV).
I was thinking mahogony, but does anyone else have any different opinions?

Re: Opinions on wood wanted for project

I have a Blaze in a mahogany Ibanez 7, and a TZ7 in a basswood 7.

The mahogany/Blaze combo will yield a fatter sound than the Blaze in basswood. The mahogany fills out the mids (in a VERY pleasing way. Almost like old EVH to my ears) and tames the Blaze's brightness. But the Blaze adds some much-needed treble to the mahogany, and you still get that nice, lush 3D character of the Blaze. Of the two, I prefer the sound of the Blaze/mahog combo to the TZ7/basswood combo, so, I'd go with mahogany for the Blaze. The two seem to like each other

The Blaze would probably also sound good in Korina wood, and maybe even walnut. Any wood with a bit of a midrange spike and smoother treble response I would think. If you don't like the Blaze/UV sound, then probably best to avoid woods with a strong, clear fundamental like basswood, maple, and probably ash or alder (although ya never know I guess.)

If you can get a hold of Korina, I would go for the Korina route over the Mahogany route. A Korina (Limba) 7 also will be more special, in the sense that not many of them are around.

And I'm building Korina JS-7 and Korina/Walnut LP....so I might be bit biased. ;-)

Well, I'm not 100% sold as mahogany as a tonewood for a seven, but in conjunction with an ash 7-string, what the hell, you've already got one bright tonewood to cover that base. They'd probably sound ungodly double-tracked, too.
