Origins of Tree Of Life inlay?

I was wondering about this a while ago and since the Untold Story book didn't help in the matter I might just ask here. Where did it come from? First I thought it was a Jem thing an then there was this different TOL in some J-Custom models. Soon I learned that it was used in many high end vintage models (Bob Weir, Professional series etc.).

Where was it first used and where did the idea come from?

Re: Origins of Tree Of Life inlay?

It was used on Acoustic guitars and Banjos way back when, I believe. Definately not an Ibanez thing, it goes back over a 100 years...

I've never seen one outside Ibanez models though (if you don't count customs).

Re: Origins of Tree Of Life inlay?

Ibanez never invented it, thats for sure

As pawel said, it was years and years ago on acoustics and banjos and stuff. Defenitely not an Ibanez thing originally.

Re: Origins of Tree Of Life inlay?

I believe the Tree of Life goes back to some old Celtic thing. Not too sure, but I know Ibanez sure wasn't the first to do it.
