painting my guitar control cavity plates

while my guitar is getting clear coated and repaired from its fall, i decided to undertake painting the control cavities of my guitar. so far i have bought.... an airbrush, aircompressor, the wrong paint (bunch of colors) and the right paint (more colors)....

i started out using 600 sand paper to the surface, then used model plastic primer. i then painted the 2 base colors, and tonight after alot of work with a scalpel and 15 blade from work, i cut the design into the frisket paper/plastic. then i lettered it using black paint. I am now awaiting the drying of the letters and i hope it all sticks well and gives me NO overspray.

if it looks good i will use some glitter gloss clear and then buff it out and then move on to the next control panel.....

Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Re: painting my guitar control cavity plates

Why would you paint control cavities? Are you using clear covers or pickguard?

Re: painting my guitar control cavity plates

part of the theme.... I bought a pickguard from pickguard paradise for the front. however i am putting some of the art work on the edge of the guitar and back of the guitar. i bought a custom laser engraved neck plate and i am painting the control cavities on the back of the guitar. pics coming soon. i still have 2 more control cavities to design and paint while waiting for the body to get clear coated.

I know how you feel. Downtime between coats is such a waste.

Re: painting my guitar control cavity plates

sweet i just bought some glitter clear coat! i am doing my trial piece now and it is turning out freaking awesome! i cant wait to keep it going.... gotta go pick up some 1500 wet sand paper and some rubbing compound for the final buffing. then you have to wait like 30 days before you use wax on in!
