parker guitar w/ basswood neck?

I saw an ad for this a while back. It was some sig. model with a mahogany body and a basswood neck. where my personal impression of parker guitars is that they are just over-priced shells for the electronics they hold, i was truly intrigued by this (how it felt, played, etc.). so now i was just wondering, has anyone else actually tried this, if so, how was it?

Re: parker guitar w/ basswood neck?

I had a '98 USA Parker Fly. It's one of the best playing guitars I've ever owned. I used to call it the Ferrari of my collection because it was so finely tuned in terms of playability and engineering.

I ended up getting rid of it simply because I prefer locking trems. The Parker system stays in tune fairly well, but it's not perfect. It's kind of the weak link in the system, as far as I'm concerned. But in terms of fit and finish, it was pretty near flawless. They're really great guitars if you can get over the body style.

IIRC, all of the original Flys were basswood. The neck/body is basswood which are encased in carbon fibre to give it strength.

Re: parker guitar w/ basswood neck?

Parkers are some of the most innovative and finely crafted guitars on the planet. Surely not just an expensive shell for their electronics. Personally they are not really my thing ( I owned a Mojo for a year), but they are fantastic guitars.
