Re: Paul Gilbert Coca Cola Guitar

This was done about 14 years ago by Fretco in Adelaide. Obviously, it was done for a Coke contest of some kind. I remember seeing the guitar just after it was painted and put back together. It was hanging behind the counter at Fretco. I ask the guy there why did they use a PG and not an RG or something. He said "because we had a PG here". Fair enough... You can't really argue with that kind of logic.

well as long as it's a 30 it's ok. what's not ok is they didnt repaint the headstock too. it just has nothing to do with the body graphics...

Looks like someone sprayed painted it ala Krylon style and slapped a Choke-Ya-Cola sticker on it.

The real prize in that contest was not to win the guitar.

Re: Paul Gilbert Coca Cola Guitar

lol,

I've seen Gilbert with a pink explorer style Ibanez before...which also had a missing single coil.

That's the thing that threw me and made me think, "Is this actually a guitar Gilbert has played?"

Re: Paul Gilbert Coca Cola Guitar

I've been seeing that poor guitar on the Bay over the last few weeks. I thought it was terrible, it's such a half-assed job, luckily it was just a lower end PGM. There's no way they'll get the amount of money they are currently wanting.

Re: Paul Gilbert Coca Cola Guitar

This was indeed a prize in a "Guitar Wars" style contest held here in Adelaide about 1995 I think - it was second prize if I remember rightly, the first being a "Coca-Cola" fender Strat, that a good friend of mine won. It may well have been Brian at Fretco here, he is still the main man around here. It looked better at the time, it now just looks like a cheaper Korean PGM with a dodgy paint job. I also have been watching this auction, first Im sure I saw this listed for AU$395 - then quickly revised to $895, then dropped to $795 - doesnt appear to be a great deal of people willing to shell out the bikkies for this axe - theres no way I'd trade my Japanese 91 RG570 for it thats for sure.

Cheers

Ward
