Paul Gilbert Models Discontinued

Hi, I was thinking about buying a nice Paul Gilbert model but I but I noticed lately that the only Paul Gilbert Model available from Ibanez now is the Chinese made Fireman so I was wondering, why did ibanez discontinue the Japanese paul gilbert models?

Paul stopped using them, so Ibanez stopped making them.

It is a bit of a downer tho, that one of the Big 3 endorsees is now only represented by a Chinese model. I'm sure they'll cook up a Premium PGM before long for everyone to fawn over tho.

Paul's no longer an Ibanez endorsee?

Tried looking for news on his site, but it seems his site has now been replaced by his online rock guitar school page.

He is, but he's mainly playing (promoting) the FRM100 these days, so that's his only sig model now.

No, I mean that he stopped using his old signature models in favor of the Fireman model.

Yeah he's got odd taste. I guess it's fact that we're all different because , in my opinion, his best signatures were his early 90's edge equipped PGM's. Oh well.

Re: Paul Gilbert Models Discontinued

I would settle for some re-issues via the Premium line like the seafoam JEM.

It's really weird that he prefers a chinese made ibanez over a japanese one they made a limited japanese fireman but why not make the new fireman also japanese?

Re: Paul Gilbert Models Discontinued

I doubt if it was Paul's decision to build it in China. He probably had his idea for the guitar, and Ibanez looked at it and ran the numbers and was willing to produce it at a price point/profit they could only meet by making it in China. And it's not like his guitar came off a shelf at GC. It might be a line sample, but you know it went through the LACS before he got it.

I'm sure if they calculated the appropriate demand for that body style at a higher MIJ or Premium price point, they'd build it.

Personally, I'm disappointed that he's so committed to the Fireman shape. Sure it's cool as a little change of pace, but I'd like to see him come up with another MIJ RG-based PGM. Not a reissue, but something new with new colors, pickup configuration, and preferably a reverse headstock.

That heel joint looks like the one on my Les Paul........must be nice having gigantic hands to where you would actually want your signature guitar with that bulky joint.
