Pawn Shop Prize (sort of)

Found this today. Decent price. It's a 550, with AANJ, Gold hardware (Lo-Pro Edge,) Breeds, FTII and a coil tap. The only thing I don't like about it is the neck inlay.

Anyone want to swap necks?

Forgot to ask, is it unusual to have a neck with this type of inlay that has a Fuji serial number? I am thinking this is a Frankenstrat because I have never seen a 550 with this type of neck.

Aren't 550's usually maple fretboards? The guitar looks very nice!

We had those inlay on the RG550LTD back in the mid 90's. Bound neck AANJ and a rosewood board.

It was available in black, but came with cosmo hardware V7, S1, V8 pickups and a mirror scratchcplate.

$350 after much badgering. They wanted $575, but I told them they were nuts because I could buy a new one for that price. It's very clean, with only one nick and some surface swirling (drawback of black guitars)

So Jono, this could be the remains of an overseas LTD?

We had them in the States too, Kirk.

That's definitely an RG550LTD, but the hardware's been replaced, since they originally came with cosmo (I think) and mirrored guards.

Also, if you hate gold hardware, I have a nice set of perfect BLACK hardware that I'll trade you for.

I guess you were kidding about wanting to swap that neck, huh? Sometimes, I am such a moron.

Hmm, time to start saving up to have a neck binding job done to my 570..

BTW, very sweet guitar, I always liked the 550LTDs..

Sorry, I didn't want to turn this into a trade ad. I'd prefer to keep the neck over a regular Rosewood/dot. I am partial to offset or no inlays at all.

Cosmetically, yes I believe it is challenged ( I really don't like the shark teeth.) However, it is a good feeling neck nonetheless, and that counts for a lot more than cosmetic appeal.

Anyone notice that the "DX" and "LTD" model RGs (usually lower end) which are just the same model basically with cosmetic differences, look like they're designed to look like a JEM knockoff??
