Talking Peavey Wolfgang

I own 2 of them (stoptails), I think they are great. The necks are small and they sound great. I want to buy a Custom Shop Wolfgang, but anyway, I'm wondering what Jemsters think of Wolfgangs?

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

there used to be a gold top at the shop I used to work for and it was the best playing and sounding guitar I ever used in my life..

thats a bold statement but that guitar had some serious tone and vibe to it..

biggest problem was I wasnt finacially able to buy it.. I will regret that for the rest of my life.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

Peavey just came out with a new model - I think it's called the HP Special CT - comes in archtop and flat-top versions - that's supposed to be even better than the Wolfie, with a more balanced shape (Strat-like), more comfortable neck, improved controls layout, hotter pickups, and a new Floyd system that allows you to either block the trem or set it for full float. The new Guitar World magazine gives it a great review. Has anyone played one of these?

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

This is my Wolfie! I love it, great neck, floyd works flawlessly, the finish is to die for and its got a unique look! And the tone... this is the only guitar that I've ever had where I don't want to upgrade the pickups!
And what about that 'chip' in the headstock? Love it!

Mine is basically the same one, and I'd say the EXACT same things about it! It's great! At first I didn't know about the neck after being an Ibanez guy for so long, but even though it's pretty thick, it feels incredibly comfortable. And I was also worried that, since mine is a Korean EXP, that the pickups would be horrible, but they are actually quite impressive IMO. In fact, I had the chance to upgrade them to Dimarzios at a very cheap cost and I turned it down, I didn't wnat anything to change in that guitar!

And a definite +1 for the 'chip' in the headstock...

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

Other than the neck being more temperamental than any of my other guitars, I love my Wolfgang Standard ST. I have a blue flame one. Sounds and feels great. I like it more than the MM EVH version.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

my rg550 with a tone zone pickup kills the wolfgang in my opinion. they sound very similar due to similar wood and pickup design. but the RG550 has a faster neck, better tremolo and it's more versatile.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

Love my Wolfgang, and well worth the cash. As I said before, I can get Vai sounds out of it that not even my Jems can. (figure that?) Here's my archtop standard custom painted that used to be Ivory, with chrome tuners and white bobbin-toppers.............

yeah, most definetly been lookin at these on the bay, pretty fair prices, cept for the first years and custom shops.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

The new HP kicks ass. I played a Goldtop and if not for the Floyd Rose, I would be very tempted to buy it. The store had an import one and it was not as nice, the neck was way too fat. I had a Wolfgang, and I can say that I liked the new HP better, but thats just one fat guys opinion.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

I have always liked them. I especially like the one Tony MacAlpine is holding in the photos of the Master Of Paradise album, 1999. That one is sweet. I like alot of them. I used to play a few of them at the local music stores a while back, they sure play nice.

Nicely done, Bob.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

I've got an amber Wolfgang Standard. It's got the best tone (to my ears) out of all my guitars. Nice guitars, for sure.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang

I've got two of 'em...

A sunburst Standard
pic

and a Special that's just like it (only not an archtop)

I love 'em.
The dTuna is wonderful!
I dig the stock pickups, but EMGs eventually won over, so that's what I use in mine.
