petrucci f1-thoughts?

I have been considering getting one of these.Maybe its just a gas attack and will pass.It would be nice to have a guitar with piezo capability.I'll be the only guitarist in a new project and it would be full sounding during clean sections with 2 amps. They cost a bit much, but most higher end guitars do.I had a jp7 for a while and was impressed with the quality.I tried a jp6 for a week and really liked it but couldn't justify having another basswood guitar at the time. The idea of an alder body with mahogony neck sounds interesting.I usually don't buy guitars anymore unless I can break even or lose just a little money if I sell down the line.I'll be thoroughly trying one out in a day or so.Anyone else try one?Do you think it will hold its value? My main guitars are rg20ths and a jcustom.Looking for something a little different.Any thoughts appreciated.

EBMM's are great guitars. I had 2 JP7's in the past and the build quality is incredible. I wouldn't even consider a new one though, get a used one on the bay!

i havent played the new F1s but apparently they're gonna cost quite a bit.

Saying that, they sounded pretty hot during the DT gig at Newcastle

I like the way they look, but I don't like the fact that they lack both the "scoop" armrest and an oiled neck. They're a bit warmer than a regular one, thanks to the mahogany neck and tone block.

By the way, my Epiphone G-310 has a mahogany neck and an alder body. I like it, although I wish the body was mahogany and the neck was maple.

the normal street price is around 2800.The painted neck could be an issue with me.I'll try one today and see.I liked the scoop armrest too.

EBMM painted necks are very easy to play, it shouldn't be an issue.

All the JP models seem to hold resale value nicely.

Re: petrucci f1-thoughts?

The F1's are SERIOUSLY expensive. I was all for one until I saw the price tag, but between $2800 for a F1 and $1200 or so for a peizo-less (really, I'd never use it) JP7, it's a no brainer. For that kind of cash, I'd be too afraid to play it, and I refuse to buy another guitar I'll be afraid to play.

Re: petrucci f1-thoughts?

I was almost going to grab an F1, but in the UK and I think even in the US, they're HIDEOUSLY expensive.

The improvements are very nice, the maple top will definately add something to the tone, I personally love maple tops, and the lower cutaway is definately appealing.

In my opinion, the inlays suck, but that's purely cosmetic.

For the cost though (especially in the UK) I could easily buy a custom Suhr, include customs and VAT, and still have just under £1k change. ( So that's what I did =D )

Re: petrucci f1-thoughts?

I'm doing my best to rationalize such a purchase. To help with the gas I picked up a rgt 42dlx on blowout for 375.00.Kind of hard to say no to a mahogony neckthrough with cool inlays.I needed a fixed bridge guitar for those occasional altered tuning moments. The one I was checking out was the black quilttop. If it was the bahama blueburst I would have bought it on the spot.I have only tried one suhr and liked it.I keep trying other brands but other than the petrucci,I haven't found anything that fits besides Ibz.Guess I'm too used to them.If I could find a jcustom with piezos it would solve my problem. Thanks for the thoughts.

Re: petrucci f1-thoughts?

Well,I pulled the trigger and bought it.What a beautiful guitar. The case is killer also.I need to set it up and change strings before I give it a proper workout.Upon inspection,I can't find a flaw and the top is stunning. Will give a review after.I will also try to post pictures in the next day or so(so little time).I probably won't use this for gigging, only studio use.It is the black quilt top.Due to some contacts I have,I got it pretty close to cost so I couldn't say no.Off to break her in.
