PGM80P-NT Paul Gilbert Signature
My Limited Edition PGM80P arrived yesterday !!
So happy, what an amazing guitar.
My fingertips are sore after playing for almost 5 hours last night, I just couldn't put it down.
A great looking guitar with the Ash body and the Ash veneer matching headstock.
I love the vintage wilkinson trem, it really suits my style (I was never one to pull up on my Edge equipped guitars anyway), and this trem allows unison bends and drop tuning with ease! Beacuse the trem sits on the body, not only does it help sustain but I'm confident that I could finish a song if I broke a string on stage (something that never happens with my JS1000 !)
It has the Gotoh locking tuners which work really well, and allows a much nicer looking standard nut. The tuning is really solid.
The Dimarzio's sound excellent, it has PAF Masters in both the neck and bridge, and these work well with the PGM single and 5 way selector. It's sonic capabilities are wide.
The neck is a 3 piece with two walnut strips and titanium rods, and is wider and slightly thicker than a wizard, but far more comfortable than the baseball bat neck on the FRM Fireman. (that may be a little unfair, but I do find my FRM a struggle at times .... it is a BIG neck on that beast)
The PGM80P has the old style 'square' neck socket with the square Ibanez chrome neck plate. It's a really big solid join (but doesn't get in the way of high fret access). What is really noticeable about this is strumming the guitar acoustically and feeling the guitar resonate against your body, it's lovely and exactly why the tone and sustain on this guitar is immense !
Now I've had my hands on an Indonesion Premium, I can honestly say it compares to my MIJ guitars in terms of feel and quality. It came in a really nice case too.
For £800 GBP ($1192 USD) it was a steal, and having played it, if it had a price tag 300 or 400 higher I would still have bought it !
I was told there were only 12 of these available on the UK market, so I feel rather special owning one, and so I should, this is a real gem of a guitar, and a definite keeper !
I don't know about numbers or availability elsewhere in the world?, but if you get a chance I highly recommend you have a play on one !
