PINK Proline 1440 ???

Hello -

I did a search for the 1440's here this morning, and scoured the webz yesterday searching for these guitars. I bought one yesterday for $200 with a hard case (not the original case but hey).

First off, it has an "E" beginning the serial number, which a decoder says is the Terada (I think) plant... never saw any mention of that anywhere else for serial numbers though. But the big mystery is... it's pink.

I have found pics of pink ones so I know they are out there, but all the old literature I found shows only red or white (with maple neck) for 1985.

Why is this model so obscure, and is it worth a damn? I bought it not knowing a lot about it because, a) it's made in Japan, and b) it's a cool old Ibanez.

Any help with some insight/experience would be greatly appreciated. Like the SZ320 I found in a pawn shop a few years ago, it seems very difficult to find info, but even moreso with this pink thing... good day all

Re: PINK Proline 1440 ???

Maybe all I should ask is, where does this guitar fit in the overall Ibanez line, at least in regards to its time (mid 80s)? Does anyone have one?

Re: PINK Proline 1440 ???

Lots of guitar for $200! Quite a few of us here (myself included) have Prolines, and the general consensus is that they're awesome .

The line was made 1985-86, considerably expanded in the final year with various body wood and neck-through options. So they're somewhat obscure, and people tend to hang onto them. The Roadstar shaped '85 models came in four colours (don't know why catalogue doesn't list the pink), and two fingerboard options: ebony (1440) and maple (1550).

The '86 models are more desirable because of the Edge trem, and some are quite rare (1880 and 2660), so they're priced accordingly. I have a gold 1770 and it kills.

Pickups are ceramic magnet loaded - the single coils have two small rail magnets on either side of the steel pole pieces; and the humbuckers also have two outer spacer magnets in addition to the main central one. They're pretty good - the humbucker is your typical high output type - fat, slightly compressed, sustaining. The single coils are ok too, good for gainy settings; because of their spec, they don't really get the shimmer/chime of a traditional single coil, but I don't think that was the point.

Serial numbers - letter: month; first two digits: year; rest: production number. E.g. E85xxxx = May 1985.

Anyway, I feel they're among the best guitars Ibanez has made.

Yep, I stand by the motion of a lot of guitar for 200 bones - condition looks great. I've seen them go for anywhere from $300 to $600, so you got a deal.

Cherry Ice is one of my favourite Ibanez colours.

Sweet, thanks. Glad to know a little about them. I thought it was a pretty good deal but could not find them anywhere to see what they might be going for. I appreciate it!

That's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much. You can get the PL1880WN (walnut) from the guy on ebay for less ($550 I think) and the quality is much better.(I still can't belive someone hasn't bought that 1880 yet.)
Congrat's on getting into the Prolines.... They are overlooked by many, it's too bad, they are GREAT guitars...

That pink is a UK listing, hence the price; it's been up for months.

I'd have got the walnut one but the guy doesn't shop to AU. I wish 1880s had a blade switch - toggles are too fiddly to use in mid-song.

There's also a black 1770 on eBay at the moment ($400 BIN), but it seems to have some issue with the tremolo, and missing buttons on the pre set switches.

Re: PINK Proline 1440 ???

I think I am offering this guitar up for sale. It is really in phenomenal shape, and I cleaned the hell out of it - took the trem completely apart and cleaned it all. The only thing this is missing is the original trem bar, but unlike the parts for the rest of the trem )Pro Rock'r), that is readily attainable.

If there is any interest I will post some newer pics. I am thinking $250, no case.
