Lots of guitar for $200! Quite a few of us here (myself included) have Prolines, and the general consensus is that they're awesome
The line was made 1985-86, considerably expanded in the final year with various body wood and neck-through options. So they're somewhat obscure, and people tend to hang onto them. The Roadstar shaped '85 models came in four colours (don't know why catalogue doesn't list the pink), and two fingerboard options: ebony (1440) and maple (1550).
The '86 models are more desirable because of the Edge trem, and some are quite rare (1880 and 2660), so they're priced accordingly. I have a gold 1770 and it kills.
Pickups are ceramic magnet loaded - the single coils have two small rail magnets on either side of the steel pole pieces; and the humbuckers also have two outer spacer magnets in addition to the main central one. They're pretty good - the humbucker is your typical high output type - fat, slightly compressed, sustaining. The single coils are ok too, good for gainy settings; because of their spec, they don't really get the shimmer/chime of a traditional single coil, but I don't think that was the point.
Serial numbers - letter: month; first two digits: year; rest: production number. E.g. E85xxxx = May 1985.
Anyway, I feel they're among the best guitars Ibanez has made.
