Please advise me as to which Ibanez suits my needs ?

hi guys.

Im a confirmed Les Paul Historic R9 player but i need a superstrat type guitar too.

Im not looking to spend anything like the R9 cost, i seek an ibanez with a lo-pro edge or edge trem, a not wafer thin neck, something a little more substantial is definitely preferred. good tonal variety and something that will cut nicely through a mix.

i know absolutely nothing about Ibanez guitars, hence im asking you guys. I wouldnt use a trem much but would be nice to lower the odd dive bomb or two

its kinda a midprice ibanez i spose im looking for, but its gotta stay in tune, thats paramount. what do you think i should demo that you think will suit my needs. said guitar should have a nice fat tone, i use a Cornford Hellcat PTP head.

I look forward to reading what suggestions you offer and thanks.

Every guitar Ibanez makes with an Edge-type trem will also come with a fast neck (Wizard). If you say you won't use the trem that much, perhaps you should look for the prestige SA1260. Comes with an SAT-Pro non locking tremolo, so not for dive bombs but it features locking saddles so it stays in tune better than the average non-locking trem.
The neck is probably what you're looking for, comfortable but not flat and thin. I think they go for like $700. Check it out.

Apart from the occasional Jem neck, Wizard II neck, Ultra neck .........

These plenty more out there than wizards to choose from!

If you're looking for something 24 fret, I would suggest a used USRG20 or USRG30. They have the tension free PBC necks that are beefier than the Wizard, alder bodies with maple tops, and are loaded with Dimarzio's. If something 22 fret would be more your style, I think a pre 2003 JS1000 would be a good choice. The two humbucker set up with the coil tap and high pass filter could get you about and sound you'd need. The neck shape might be exactly what you're looking for as well. --Jason

Maybe he should go for a radius. Didn't they have a Viper neck profile?

If he has a les paul he's cool with 22 fret So the radius would be right up his alley.

If I had to buy a US distributed Ibanez model I would unquestionably choose an RG2020X or newer RG2120X. The necks on those guitars are great, they are much thicker than the standard Wizard but the shape is just perfect (well at least for me). Though if you are not uncomfortable with purchasing from overseas (which a lot of us here do, including myself, quite frequently) I would go with either the RG2770FM or RG2720FM, which are offered in Japan.

If I were you I would buy a new JEM7VWH to go along with your stellar LP.

I think many of you guys are too indulged in your own "thing" and not really recommending him anything.

I recommend a late 80's 540 Radius. You can find them on ebay for under $350 and they are just what a Les Paul player would want in a strat style guitar. The radius body is not super thin like the S series of guitars and it is not 'heavy metal pointy' like the RG series (no offense intended RG-ers).

The Les Paul is a piece of classic lines, art, and beauty. The strat-style guitar to compliment it is the Radius. THe necks on the 540Rs I recomment are Ibanez Ultra necks and they are a great neck. Compared to the whopper neck on his R9, any neck will feel thin, but these necks are a superb compromise of the Fender strat neck and a modern rock guitar.

Now, I must admit that radius guitars are definitely my thing, but I'm also right on about what I've stated above. I currently have these three:
