Please educate me

I haven't been around Jemsite or Ibanez guitars in a long time...but "back in the day" I had a RG550, and a RG570. In 2000 I bought a RG3120 Prestige. When did the 550 and 570 become "Prestige" models? And when did the Prestige line begin?

Re: Please educate me

Yes, I noticed that the model numbers changed. Other than that, and the AANJ, are there any differences? Or did Ibanez just start calling those guitars "Prestige"?

Re: Please educate me

In my opinion, the original 550/ 570 guitar and the 1550/ 1570 guitars are totally different animals. Different trems, necks, neck joints, etc. I much prefer the feel of the original earl 90's 550's. The Prestige lines are really nice though, just very different. I have a 2550 which is a 'modern' 550 I suppose. Great guitar, but w/o the old school 550 magic.

Re: Please educate me

I called 2003 as the end of an era.
with edge pro replacing edge/ lo pro edge
prestige neck, and prestige logo...

Actually, the early prestige had the same wizard neck as pre-2003 wizard on 550.
I had 03 and 04 RG 1550, they both had the same wizard, it just the prestige now used 3 pieces of wood.

other than that, I dont think there is a significant differences/ improvement.

Yes, the RG570 and the RG1570 are different guitars IMO; the biggest difference being direct-mounted pickups. I personally prefer the direct-mounted pickups. Most people like Original Edge over the Edge Pro but I like them both fairly equally.
The RG550 and RG1550 are a little more similar as they both have pickguard mounted pickups.

Re: Please educate me

i might not clearly stated that 2003 is the year of 550 become 1550, and so on.

yes you are correct, the label 'pretige' itself started 1998 or maybe 1997?

Ah yes, I understand now. Yeah, I'm not sure if Prestige started '97 or '98 but Ibby sure got the 3120 right the first time. Perhaps it would have been better to leave it alone that all the tweaks that have dragged this one great line to a screeching halt.

yeah, when the 3120 first appearing, I was like ' wow.. this must be the top of the line ibanez ever...'. remember back in the day, after RG 5XX, there is no upper end RG they offered to the market, except for japanese domestic models.

Re: Please educate me

I did a youtube vid of my RG's a little bit ago:

This covers a bunch of original 550's and a newer 2550. Just some guitar porn and a little info thrown in.
