please have a look at the pictures of the Ibanez guitar I just acquired - and help me identify it.
It does not have any serial number, but judging from the hardware and pickup configuration, I would roughly date it 1987..1989. At first glance, it looks like a RG560, but some features of the body (material, shape and finish) make it impossible for me to identify. It's made of ash, finished in transparent red/orange color, which is both unusual for late 80's RGs. Except for the retrofit mini switch, the control layout is standard 1988+ no-pickguard RG. But the striking feature is the body shape - the electronics cavity has the exact same shape as the 1986 Proline, but the cutaways are much deeper than a PL. Also, the body horns are less pointy than the RG/JEM shape that was introduced 1987. The previous owner bought it used, so he couldn't tell me anything about its background.
The neck heel says "RG-440PAH" and the neck pocket says "?440 AH" and hand-written "RED". So the question is: When was this built, and is this a prototype, a factory test guitar, a custom job, a show guitar, ...?
