Please help! What did I buy??

Ok, I just traded for (what I was told) is an RG1550 prestige. All black with maple board. Edge Pro trem. Prestige written above the Ibanez logo. It's an awesome guitar HOWEVER the serial number starts with F02?

F0244***

From my research, the 1550 didn't come out until 2003 so what in the hell do I have then?? Is this a simply goof / misread on my part or do I need to start pulling the neck on this thing pronto!?!?!?

Thanks so much for any / all help and replies. You guys are truly awesome.

~J

Re: Please help! What did I buy??

probably not a goof . Guitar companies will make products ahead of a release date in order to cut wait time after the actual release.

I have an rg7620 that is a 97 serial but it didn't come out till 1998 in the catalog. It is also stamped a 7520 in the neck pocket.

Re: Please help! What did I buy??

thanks J, that would make a lot of sense as every aspect of this guitar points to a 1550. Pups are 36th anniversary PAF in neck and Evo in bridge.

Re: Please help! What did I buy??

The description also states that the neck should be a 3 piece Maple/Bubinga however this looks like 3 pieces of just maple? Can anyone confirm that as well?

Re: Please help! What did I buy??

Nothing unusual about that. They have to build up inventory the previous year to have it ready to go in January.

3-piece maple/bubbinga is the super wizard with a scarf joint. Your's is 3-piece maple with no scarf. This was the new version of neck made for prestige guitars.

Re: Please help! What did I buy??

Thanks RGTFanatic however this kinda confirms my confusion. Based on the info here:
http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/RG1550

The neck on this 2002/2003 should be a 3 piece with bubinga correct? could the site be wrong?

Re: Please help! What did I buy??

2003-04, fretboards still had the big dots and the 3-piece necks with no walnut stips.

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/...t_id=263&now=6

In 2005 they changed to small dots and the 5-piece neck with walnut strips.

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/...t_id=270&now=3

The catalog still calls them 3-piece necks but in 2006 they started referring to them 5-piece.

Also, that Wiki is wrong.

THIS^^^^

And THIS AGAIN^^^^^

The Ibanez Wikia is a good place to start, but definitely not the place to end......LOL. It is RIFE with mis-information and inaccuracies.
