Premium RG 970 WBWZ or Prestige RG 1450 NC
I play since I was 13 years old. Today, I'm close to 31. After my first guitar I became keen about construction, setup, hardware, so I started applying my electronic skills on my own guitars, making some changes and adjusts like trussrod and fine tunning.
Today I'm able to play some Satch, Iron Maiden, Mettalica, Deep Purple (Blackmoore's Era) after a little practice.
My guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Standard. I've owned some Fender Strats and other Les Pauls.
There are many players that shred using Stratos (OK, it is possible) even Les Pauls! Oh Gosh!!! Les Pauls!!! They must have huge ernormous gigantic hands to do that. For me is a tough task to access the higher frets of my Les Paul. My small hands must strech and apply to much strenght to play in that region. Play fast? Forget it.
Now I'm practicing lots of speed improvement exercises and the results are coming, but my highly preciously built and finished Les Paul is not helping at all, and I want a shredding guitar. Cause of my shredding idols I want an Ibanez, and I won't be satisfied with a toy guitar.
I've being searching for a guitar which specifications would make my heart beat in the speed of light, and I found myself lost between the Premium and Prestige lines. The guitars responsible for my nights awake are: Premium RG 970 WBWZ and Prestige RG 1450 NC.
All I've read about the Premium lineup says these guitars are a half way between the standards and Prestige, and all I have read about the Prestige says they are very consistently built, with the best quality standards, components and etc.
The RG 970 is pretty. The specs includes a burled top, a darkened brown walnut and wenge neck, Edge Zero II bridge with the ZPS system (yes, I appreciate the possibility of loose a string and keep going), DiMarzio Pickups (ok, these are not THAT DiMarzio you always wanted, but is not a total crap, I imagine), jumbo frets.
At first glance the RG1450 NC looks like any regular RG350. It is not a beauty topped guitar. It's a regular black body with a black pickguard, with an Ibanez pickup set, which I could not judge if are really worse than the premium Dimarzio, no ZPS, but a Edge Pro bridge alleged to be the best in the lineup, and is Made In Japan. Here, in Brazil, this Prestige is a little cheaper than the Premium.
So I ask: how much the MIJ factor makes this prestige better than the Premium? How much it could be worse?
Is the premium reliable? Are they worse than the prestige even having most of the specs better?
I want a good guitar, but I don't want a ugly guitar, and the RG1450 doesn't make me excited about that. The 970 make my eyes shine, but I'm not 100% confident about the quality, even keeping in mind that THIS Premium is more expensive than the Prestige.
I appreciate your help.
