Question Choosing a new Prestige help

Hey all,

i've already got an ibanez RG350 EX which has the stock ibanez INF 3 and 4 pups, basswood body and wizard II neck and Edge 3 bridge. But as i've had it for 5 years as it was my second guitar (first proper one) i have found out the limitations of what it can do.

I've been learning Cliffs of Dover and Canon Rock recently and had the occasional dead fret and noticing the fret wear, i decided it was propably time to treat myself to a new one but im stuck on which model to get.

I understand some do not like the Edge 3 bridge and i've found it can tarnish, and i have tried the SynchroniZR bridge and the Zero Edge systems and i quite like them, being able to remove the stop bar and have a floating trem.

I'd like: Either trem system mentioned earlier, Pretige model, Pickups which enhance my playing style (Dimarzio's possibly), Price idealy 1000 (can dream) but can stretch to 1500.

thanks for reading the mammoth message.

Re: Prestige help!

Your OP is very vague...but unless im wrong youre asking for a new guitar.
I think a lot of people here may vouch for the older RGs (RG550/60/70, RG770,760 etc etc) which have the Original Edge

I think the newer Ibanez prestiges are using the Edge Zeros now? RG1570z, 2550z, 3550z, 4570z.

Have a look

Re: Prestige help!

Thanks,

I've had a look at them and i could swear the 4570z is an upgraded version of the 3620z with the same abalone decorative strip. That replaced the RG2620Z, Shame they discontinued them, you think they'd re-issue it 2012?

Re: Prestige help!

Personally.... I'd be all over the Jem 505. I found it for 1473 GBP. It's the ultimate players guitar and has ALL that you want stock...... no mods necessary (except for possibly a set of locking studs..... I don't know if they have them this year)

Re: Prestige help!

I have an S5470. I really love it. People talked about sustain issues, but I don't have any issues with mine. And I'm sure the 2011 models have all those bugs worked out.

Re: Prestige help!

Yeah i was also wondering what the differences between the S5470 and the SV5470, apart from the latter being a prestige model. Plus is the sustain issue to do with S models to do with the thin body shape, or have they chosen a more resinant wood to counter-act that problem?

Re: Prestige help!

Those are both Prestige models. From my understanding, the SV has a SynchroniZR bridge instead of a ZRII. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As for the sustain issue. I'm not exactly sure what caused it, I just know I don't have a problem. Someone mentioned some rubber pieces on the ZRII that null some sound? Again...Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Prestige help!

So did you buy your ibanez in the 'US' or 'UK' and what year please? Just seeing if it was the older ones that they corrected later on, or the newer versions are rushed.

Thanks

Re: Prestige help!

I bought mine in the USA. It's a 2009 Red Optimus model.
