backstory: I recently discovered a lefty specialist dealer with a stock (5) of these guitars in left-handed version. As I'm obviously not familiar at all with the inner workings of Ibanez on a dealer level, I had always basically assumed that if I wanted a lefty ibanez, my options were limited to what was listed on their website. Apparently it's not "quite" the case, and the guitar I want DOES exist! Read on
I'm soliciting any and all first (or second-, or third-
) -hand knowledge/experience anyone has with RG652KFX. Construction, wood types plus/deltas, neck, body, neck pocket issues (? read some vague references to some cracking or something there on this model), etc.
This is mainly just curiosity and placebo effect, as I know QC is basically a total gamble and unless someone like "that famous Rich guy" who may have potentially had dozens or more of these guitars pass through their hands, noticed any pattern, hearing online testimonials isn't going to impact how well these 5 guitars (that this dealer evidently ordered as a special run) may or may not have been built and finished.
"why not just buy that nebula green RG, rich has some right now?", ehhh, not into it. Tempted, especially knowing I could confidently get a solid guitar out of it, but I just don't want that one (and if it's that or another manufacturer, I'm really not an "ibanez guy" so I don't care enough).
In the name of brevity, I won't delve deeply into what I don't want or why, but the list includes:
--not the mikro
--no monkey grip
--not that PS120L, meh
As you can see, that basically eliminates the normal production-run leftys.
So, when I stumbled on the possibility of a lefty RG652KFX, I was very intrigued.
I'm not in a position to personally check any of these guitars (in a strange twist of fate of course, the shop in question is about 30 minutes from where I used to live, years ago).
My question for you Ibanez pros is: What experience does anyone have with this guitar? I'm interested in QC and such, not tone/sound/etc. I'm wondering if I should take the plunge and hope for the best--on the one hand, if he has a stock of 5, maybe I have a decent chance at a solid guitar and if not, try return for a swap?
On the other hand, it's probably likely (guaranteed even, amirite
) that all 5 are flawed in *some* way, just a matter of getting one with the best/most manageable flaws, and without a pro on the other end to do an ibanezrules!!-type treatment, it'd be pure luck at getting the rejection-worthy one vs. the "not perfect but passable" ones vs. the "wow this one is almost perfect" one.
That said, I have some faith of course that this guy knows his ****, and he's really into providing leftys with access to guitars (and obviously has a lot of motivation to sell great guitars), but at the same time, if he talked Ibanez into a special order of lefty guitars and they delivered, was he really into a position to reject any?
Maybe the answer is easy, but I'm really clueless on this sort of thing. This I'd love to hear some feedback on as well from some vendor--is it likely that they maybe put a little extra effort into finishing these guitars? Or the opposite even? (maybe ibanez was like sure, give us your money, but we couldn't care less about your stupid lefty dreams) If some were rejection-worthy would he refuse just 1 or 3 or send all back?
I know, I know! These are questions I need to ask this dealer and this dealer alone, but before I get there maybe someone here has some input
. Cuz if the "ibanez guys" here have some negative stuff on this guitar, it's really not worth pursuing any more--I don't have the time during business hours to actually talk on the phone with the dealer and emailing isn't my ideal format to ask "hey, can you pick the best one of those 5 guitars to sell me? thx! btw, if i dont like it can i send it back and you give me another one that's better"
Any recommendations? I'm not in a "huge" dilemma (despite what the huge textwall would have you believe--I just talk/type alot
) because I'm not really like OMG I NEED AN IBANEZ AND THIS IS THE ONLY OPTION WHAT DO I DO!!! (plan A was always get a more boutique-custom lefty that 100% checks my boxes anyway)
At the same time, the more I look at this thing, the more I want it
, and it almost seems "too good to pass up"--the option to get basically exactly what I want (checking ALMOST all my boxes) from an ibanez after I previously thought it was a lost cause. Meant to be?! Or "meh it's not even that pretty or that great of a guitar, screw it"
Sorry for the length and thanks for reading if you managed to stick through it.
