Woo hoo! Grimace II is in the house. (You all remember Grimace, right? My purple USRG30TP.)

That is almost exactly what I have been waiting for! Neck thru, bound fretboard, thicker Ultra neck, mahogany body, flame top... and a sweet a$$ transparent purple finish to boot. Even the added bonus of a little violet chrome hardware! My only wish may have been for a little more pickup variety than 2 PAF Pros, but given that I've never played a mahogany guitar with 2 direct-mounted PAF Pros I guess I can't really complain too much 'til I try it out.

So much for saving up some money this year... *

A sweet guitar indeed!! *I'll agree with Rich's assessment of 'Guitar of the Year'. *

My only complaint about this one - and it's minor- plastic and natural binding should not be mixed IMO.

Really looking forward to trying one of these out in person. *If the 9670 I played is any indication, these should have tone for days!

Not only does that guitar look incredible but it has the the JPM-like neck profile. * I cant wait until it becomes available.

The more I look at it, the more it makes me think of Jackson Soloists (which is not a remotely bad thing, IMHO).

The Jackson soloists generally have pretty tight flame tops, and often have chrome hardware on transparent finished models. With the neck-thru design and bound fretboard, this is certainly on par, and it gets extra points for having direct-mounted pickups and more versatile switching!

I was told the aproach was to make a Soloist killer, in the end it just had all the options that have been asked for over and over. If you want to see conitued models like this from Japan, they will have to sell or go the way of the 2027. I don't think they'll have any problems moving alot of these though!!!!

Ibanez deserves all the credit, they nailed a winner with this one! Getting the scoop out is as much fun (work) for me as it is for you, and actually, it'smy job

Has anybody compared this model to the JC 9570? or something like that? Color is different, but from memory this is a pretty close match.

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/el_gui...om/rg9570.html

Differences:
The colours, the middle single coil, body binding, different lamination on the neck I think...

But that purple colour is just drool-icious

Qucik comparison to the 9570...

9570 has flame maple binding on the neck and head, 3120 has plastic.

9570 has a five-piece maple/bubinga neck, 3120 has 3-piece maple.

9570 is HSH and has different PUs.

9570 has Cosmo white HW, 3120 has violet chrome. *(Having seen both, VC is WAY better looking IMO.)

9570 has the Wizard neck, 3120, has has the Ultra. *

Oh yeah, and the 9570 will cost you a lot more!

Neck profile and PU differences aside, the differences are purely cosmetic. *I think Ibanez is gonna sell a lot of these!

Thanks again Rich for all your hard work getting us the pics so fast! *It may be work-related for you, but I haven't seen one other dealer, even those who deal in significantly more expensive guitars, posting NAMM pics this early. *(Then again, I just might not be looking hard enough...but why would I? )

Oooh, the GAS pains... the GAS pains..

Shame it's not double edge, though.. that would make it so cool...but then again, that would make it a "gimmicky" guitar to a lot of people. *It's nice to see ibanez making straightforward 6-stringers with looks to make you drool.
I hope they sell a TON of these... I know there's a pretty good chance I'll be getting one.

Sadly I just got a new guitar (which I love of course because it's an Ibanez) so I won't be getting this guitar, at least not for awhile. But I still love looking at them!

whoever said GUITAR OF THE SHOW is right about this one
