Problem with a RGA121 & the new D Activator-X
I recently bought a pair of new DiMarzio D Activator-X pickups (DP 221 & DP 222) to replace the original pickups of an Ibanez RGA121 VLF, the V7 and V8. When installing the Activator-X, I had a bad surprise: the height of these pickups is higher than the original ones! They are actually taller than any pickups I have seen. Even by installing them as low as possible in the guitar, they are still way too high: their distance to the strings is only approx. 3 mm. Moreover, there is a note coming with the Activator-X, saying that their magnet structure is very powerful, and that they should be adjusted far enough from the strings...
It is clear that, even for "normal" pick-ups, the distance to the strings is too small. So I would like to ask you, did this already happen to anyone else? What solution did you find? One way would be to bring the guitar to guitar maker, and have him lower the bottom of the "pickups holes"...
I must say, this is really a pain. I hope these new pickups will be worth the trouble.
Thank you for any help.
