Project Fireball Swirl RG: Swirl Is Done!

Ok haven't done a build thread in a long time so here we go..

I am going to be doing a make over to a RG120, we are going to redo the paint with a Fireball Swirl (Yellow,Red,Black, and Orange) on both the headstock and the body.

Clear Coat it, Wet Sand it, and Polish it.

Neck will be getting a Vine decal in Red Abalone

Plastics will be Yellow, as well as the Headstock decal.

So lets get cracking the guitar wont be here till tomorrow per the UPS tracking.

I have a pair of INF3 and INF4 pickups laying around so first thing I needed to do was to give them a face lift. Got to wait a few days then I will hit them with a little heat to even out the misc wax that I couldnt get out of the hex screws.

Re: Project Fireball Swirl RG: Lets Get Started

sounds cool! cant wait to see!

now are you buying an rg120 for this or do you have one already to use? because you could get a used rg570 for the price of a new rg120 and then youd have a much better guitar when youre done. just a thought

though youve been on jemsite since 2002, so you probably saw that answer coming

Less yellow more oranges and red is what I have in my mind. In order of dominance I would like Red, Orange, Black, then Yellow

Re: Project Fireball Swirl RG: Lets Get Started

Ok the donor is here!! Not bad shape at all for being 9 years old, neck and pocket date Oct 02. Has the old style square neck joint versus the AANJ.

Any who on with the show.

Lets put all this crap aside

For the next few hours I will be painfully stripping this crap black off this body, I am not going to go into detail on how to strip a finish LOL there is a million tutorials all over, next shots will be when the guitar is prepped for swirl.

Here she is bare bones, see ya tomorrow LMAO

Re: Project Fireball Swirl RG: Lets Get Started

Well that went easier then planned a little heat and the black kryptonite just peeled right off leaving me with a nice body with the sealer coat perfectly intact. WOOHOO..

After a little level sanding and a bit of clean up I was able to shoot the primer and color coat. I am using a platinum base and will follow it up later with a pearl top coat the over all finish will have a polished aluminum feel to it. Making some of the thinner humbrol paints more metallic looking.

Here is the platinum base coat.

Re: Project Fireball Swirl RG: Lets Get Started

Ok Pearl Coat is on and curing over night, we shall swirl tomorrow..

Some of the pics look like its two different colors its a combination of the pearl itself, and some of the paint has flashed off already. Its beautiful as is really..

I think the fireball name is incorrect, that's liquid magma and it looks awesome !

Very cool, but I don't like the pink in it. Maybe a darker red instead??
