Project : resto and slight modification

Bought my rg7321 a few days ago, and needless to say, its a little worse for wear. a huge chunk was missing on the body, and the neck was in despicable shape. It looks like the guitar was played a few times in a smokers home, and left in a closet and not payed any attention for 6 years (its an 05 model).

So what Im doing/done so far,

Neck -> Already done, but heres a description

- Polished frets. there was no appreciable fret wear, but they were corroded as hell.

- refinished the top and bottom.

- did a "prestige" neck pocket mod. Nothing screams "Cheap" like that bit of extra wood that sticks out from the body. I took a wood rasp and filed it down, and sanded the whole neck smooth.

- sanded fret ends to smooth them out, make it feel better and less "sharp". should work out well.

Body ->

I popped up the chip and slapped some bondo. When it cures, ill sand it flat and match it to the body. then I will redo the clear on the whole body, because its gunked up pretty badly. should come out well when Im finished.

Yes yes, pics are coming in a minute, gotta upload them and stuff, takes a while.

Re: Project : resto and slight modification

Neck mod.

while it was attached, I took a permanent marker and marked where the wood met the neck. this would be my guide line.

You can see where the wood sticks out here, and Im sure many of you know what Im talkin about with guitars of your own.

From there we have the permanent marker.

Rough pass with the wood rasp, you can see how it begins to conform to the body instead of sticking out its nice and rounded now too, so should play a little better as well

and after sanding it sits smoothly flush with the body

Body fix ->

pretty self explanatory here.

Since wood was chipped up, theres no way to replace it, so... BONDO!

once it cures, sand it down, paint it black and re clear the body. ez-pz.

Nice job!!! Nothing like a good project, or 20!!

I have almost went down the 7-string way before. Maybe I should pick me up one and swirl it.

Need to get my two others done first though!!!

i say go all the way and match the headstock! nothings a bigger buzz kill then looking up at your guitar and seeing that mass of black where the sparkles should be!
