Project wrapping up, Carbon RG :D

So, after the collossal failure of trying to do the 540s, I had a beaten down rg body, a bunch of carbon fiber, and a desire to finally see it work.

Well, RG's are INFINITELY EASIER to work on then Sabers, for obvious reason.

Forgive the crappy pictures, but its about 90% done. Im letting the clear cure for a week before I wetsand and polish, so thats why it has the orange peel thing going on, but that will come out super duper easy.

Now to find a gold EDGE and Im good to go

Stats ->
RG350 donor body (cheap!)
Evo loaded pickgaurd (it was cheap!)
RG570 neck (also cheap!)

I can definitely see myself doing a jem in the nearish future. This puppy was cake, and easily doable for any skill level.

Thoughts about the white pickgaurd and the gold trem?? I enjoy it personally.

The body is awesome, but I don't dig the pickguard...doesn't match to me, smoke mirror would do the trick and cosmo hardware IMHO...

Looks cool dude. I like the pick guard. Mirror would be cool. Never been a fan of gold hardware but it would really pop with the carbon. Well done!

That looks awesome. I'd just go a black white black three ply guard though. That or the reverse (W-B-W)

Re: Project wrapping up, Carbon RG :D

probably it would be better on a guitar that doesn't need a pickguard, but nice work

I agree, but I had this one handy

Its taking a LOT more work then I expected!

Going to use a cosmo edge. We'll see about the pickguard choice. May make a carbon fiber one haha, blend it in

edit: although the rg is immensely easier then the s540, its still a stupendous pain in the buttocks to get it look right.

I like it as/is, but I suspect that a smoked guard and cosmo would look better.

BTW... you DO know your gonna have to do some routing to fit the Edge, right??...........lol

yizzer, got my dremel handy I think all that I need to do is widen it up a little bit I think. I'll do some measurements later to confirm.

Re: Project wrapping up, Carbon RG :D

Cant believe I thought this project was wrapping up... I spoke way too soon.

Neck pocket is AFU, lots of body cracks and finish chips, fixed it all with some Bondo (). Neck is being a PITA to finish. Neck pocket is now nice and tight, hopefully the bondo will hold up (dont see why it wouldnt honestly). The top is pretty much completely done, covered with 3 layers of masking tape to protect it.

On the bright side, it's comin out great. Just playing the waiting game for paint to dry

Probably finish sand the body tomorrow when I get home from work. If it comes out fine, I will be priming the guitar and smoothing things out. I need to get a dremel bit to carve out the edge profile as well.

Decided... GREEN HARDWARE! ... dont ask...

GREEN????? dude whatever your smokin.... PASS it ALONG!!!!!!!! lol

When you look for a bit.... the smaller the better, believe me!!! It works out much cleaner to take off less material than it does big chunks quickly........OK I just re-read that and obviously I'm the one that's been smoking something.

Just to save a LOT of frustration, get the smallest diameter flush cut bit you can find....

Dude, Im gonna use a friggin sander bit.... Im not brave enough to venture into the unknown "routing" world quite yet

perhaps when I finish my "workshop" (aka unused bedroom lol, wife is gonna use it for beads, so I have the green light! ), I will get a mounted router or something. Thing with routers, they... are NOT forgiving if you make an error Id have to get handy with some bondo again haha

edit : yes, green. Im painting one of my lo trs's to see how it looks. If it looks good, I will be getting my edge powder coated that way.
