prs se custom

I'm looking for a second guitar and I'm on the fence btwn another prestige or getting something different like the prs se custom. I haven't played the wide think neck yet, only the wide fat for a short time. I don't mind the bigger neck but don't know how I'll like the radius if I have to live with it.

I'm curious to know if anyone has one, or any other 10 inch radius neck and how they compare it in feel to a prestige. Any problem going back and forth between a 10 inch radius and 16 neck?

Then again, my old Warmoth necks went from 10 to 16 and I liked them!

Re: prs se custom

Ive been a ton of guitar centers that have full stocks of SE, is there one near you by any chance? Id just try it, if thats the case.

I've found swapping guitars to be pretty natural for what I choose them for. JEM gets beaten to death, then I would go to the strat for some blues stuff, then back

That said, Im not a huge fan of painted necks... I hate them honestly. Those custom 22's look awesome to be honest, and priced appropriately it seems.

Re: prs se custom

My PRS guitars all have 10 radius and my RG550XXth has the typical Ibanez radius.

You will notice differences jumping from one to another, however the main differences I feel are in the neck depth, finish and fret size. The wide fat is really my thing at the moment.

The 10 radius to me makes bends and bend vibratos slightly easier as it is less flat, it feels more natural with the wrist movement.

In terms of feel they are 2 different animals as the IBZ is satin maple and the PRS is glossy poly...try an SE before hand as you may not like the finish, particularly if you tend to sweat. I have not worries with my SE but I much prefer satin necks as a rule.

Give me a satin wide fat neck with big frets and I'm happy...wait! Got one of them!

My guitar teacher has a Prestige S 5470 and a Gibson Custom Shop. I played them both and as I am an Ibanez player it was difficult to me to adapt to the radius of the Gibson. Anyway my teacher is used with them both and plays them all the same.

I think it's a matter of habit.

Re: prs se custom

Thanks for the input. I have a couple GC's about an hour away I'll have to try and get to.

Besides the radius the painted neck and medium frets are a bit of a turnoff. Sandpaper fixes the neck though

TBH - I think the best bet for you if you want a PRS is to get a second hand Standard 24 satin.

It has the wide thin neck and satin finish...not as cheap as the SE but no horribly expensive either...and the pickups, build, woods and hardware are superior as is the playability.

Re: prs se custom

I tried some SE some time ago (22s and 24s) and I found them to be good guitars for the price, I don't have any particular mention on the necks (they were nice, not exceptional, but definitely playable), but everything was well made and seemed solid. The only negative thing were the pickups, which were a bit weak, but it's an easy upgrade.
