puzzled over a 550

ok, i know someone who got a 550BK recently, second hand, obviously, and it has a maple fretboard. the serial number is # F0041644. to my knowledge, this means it was made in 2000, but i didnt think 550s were being made then, let alone 550's with maple fretboards. whats the deal with this?

Dude, what have you been reading?

550's were made since '87, and most of the models between then and 2002 had maple fretboards.

http://www.jemsite.com/jem/neckjoint.htm

They'res pictures of both.

If it has the Original neckjoint (Standard), the RG is a 1990 model.

If it has AANJ, its a 2000 model.

Re: puzzled over a 550

However...my RG 550 DY is a reissue from 2000 and has a standard joint, I suppose they wanted to keep it original. If the guitar is a reissue of any kind, it's most likely got a standard.

Really? I could've sworn that I've seen pre '93 guitars with the aanj. I could be wrong though.
I think I saw a few '91 models with it, maybe a Saber or something.....actually, '93 sounds about right so.

Re: puzzled over a 550

The Jem7VWH debuted the AANJ on "RG" bodied guitars in 1993. The RG series had the older neck profile that year. The AANJ appeared on all RG bodies in 1994.

Here are the RG catalog scans, courtesy of Ibanez Rules from 1993 and 1994

The AANJ has been around since 89, where it was on the Maxxis, Vinnie Moore VM1, and the 540S Custom, and SDGR Soundgear basses.

The RBM Reb Beach model had it, in 1991, as well as the FGM Frank Gambale model.

1992, it was on the USA Custom Ibanez guitars.

In 1993, the PGMs, S-series, and the JEM7VWH all had AANJ

In 1994, the RG series were AANJ.

is that a real re-issue ? not a modification one? where did you get it?
