Question for 7620 owners!

Hi guys,

I recently got a 7620 (grey - very cool) and am very happy with it, its a fantastic guitar. However, Im finding that the high E string is slipping off the fretboard alot when I play. I compared the distance of the high E to the edge of the fret to my Schecter Hellraiser 7 string, and the 7620 is MUCH closer to the edge of the fret, so that if you move a small amount the string just slides off. Is this normal/correct for this model? Has anyone else experienced this with a 7620? Ive owned quite a few guitars and have never had this problem before.

Cheers

Re: Question for 7620 owners!

I had this happen with one of mine. It ended up being that the nut was a little bit out of alignment, as well as, the neck angle being a little bit off. Once I fixed that, all was good.

sounds abnormal. it could be as simple as what IBZ^ mentioned, but it'd be worth getting it checked out.

Re: Question for 7620 owners!

Is it like that the whole length of the string or does it get more pronounced in the upper registers?

Re: Question for 7620 owners!

/\ I suspect Jim's on the right track here.

I've got a UV with the nut slightly out of alignment, maybe a mm off center towards the low B side. However, it's the only Floyd-equipped guitar I've ever seen where this was an issue (it's also something like 16 years old, lol) so I suspect Jim's right, that it's not the nut but rather it's your neck that's slightly out of alignment.

If so, it's an easy enough fix, though it'll probably make you rather nervous to do - simply, you need to slightly loosen up the four bolts holding the neck to the body, and then push on the side of the neck to allow it to "shift" back into alignment in the neck pocket, and then tighten them back up. Problem solved. :agreed:

I've always loved the 7620GN's, partly because it is a subtle, attractive finish, and partly because I vastly prefer the Powder Cosmo hardware to plain black - I've been meaning to grab one of those and have an alder replacement body done up for years.

Re: Question for 7620 owners!

thanks for the responses guys! I read some of the "setup" instructions on this site and may have found the problem/s. The nut isnt centered properly, so Ill re-adjust that. One other thing I noticed is that if you look at the positioning of the bridge in the bridge cavity, there is more of a gap on the low E side than the high E side, is this normal or should it be equal?

How do you know when the neck has shifted back into alignment? Do you need to use much force? Sounds scary!!

It definately is closer to the edge of the fret higher up the fret board?
