Question about the 20th RG v.this means you Dee

Give me the low down on the "finish" on the neck, I know Rich alerted us to the fact the frets have some type of "finish" on them but what about the fretboard? I kinda like the idea of some kind of sealant, although to the touch I can't tell there is anything on there. And I thought about polishing the frets but wouldn't leaving whatever finish is there ON buy you a little protection for them?

The clear coat that's on the frets will wear off after a while anyway, but by all means leave it on there if you don't mind it. I'm a bit picky and I like messing with guitars, so I felt like getting it off (which is a time-consuming process!). There's no "need" to polish the frets, I just enjoy doing that kinda stuff.

gotcha, yeah I have a fairly elaborate method I use with a dremel to polish mine, but I'm leaving my 20th alone for now. In year or two I will polish them. So as far as you know is the neck completely bare wood? Feels like it.

No, it has some kind of clearcoat on it. If it was bare it'd get filthed up in no time.

That's what I thought, good to know, I was scared to death it would pick up any little bit of dirt because it was unfinished. I already was thoroughly washing my hands before I'd pick it up

Usually maple necks have to have some kind of finish or oil on them to prevent filth from getting on the wood, just like Dee said.
