question about the duncan 7 string JB pickup

How's Seymour Duncan's 7 string JB's sound compare to Dimarzio's tone zone? Which one is more suitable for playing Petrucci's stuff?
Thanks

From what I remember Petrucci used to play with a Tone Zone and Humbucker From Hell before he went with the Steve Special and Air Norton.

My opinion is that the JB is the best pickup ever. High output(with Alnico magnets instead of ceramics! YAY!), boosted treble and bass, and a nice mid because of the alnico magnets. So I'll prefer it over any Dimarzio.

All I know is that ceramic is known for having more bite and a pretty bright tone whereas alnico's have a warmer, more balanced tone. This rule sure doesnt apply to all pickups but this is what have known.

But be carefull, some 6-string Dimarzio pups have non-ceramic magnets, but their 7-string counterparts have ceramic magnets. I don't know if that's also the case with Seymour Duncan pups. I had also read in a review that because of this difference the 7-string versions of some pups don't sound like their 6-string counterparts. I would recommed you to try the pups if possible. Otherwise you may get disapointed.

There are some mp3 samples of the JB in my RG-2027 here:

I recorded them using a POD straight into my computer. *I highly prefer the JB over the stock RG-2027 pickup.

One thing I've noticed is that alnico magnet pickups pick up more noise & hum than ceramic.
