Question about Floyd rose 7s

Hey.. Curious question to you guys who know your stuff...

Is a Lisenced Floyd Rose 7 a direct swap for a OFR-7??

Looking to build my first guitar (with neckthru blank) and I want a trem, but Im not sure exactly how much I will be using it on this guitar so I dunno if I need it super stable (Edge 7 or OFR-7 quality) or just like able to do small dips... So I wanna go as cheap as I can until I find out for sure down the road, then I could replace it with an OFR7..

might try to find one on **** used, a lisenced one.. if it can be swapped for a OFR down the road.. That would be cool.. I mean, Its going to be T-No'd 90% of the time anyways but never know when you'll need the trem =]

Re: Question about Floyd rose 7s

IMO, you should make the guitar with DEFINITIVE parts.
In my humble opinion, just buy the CORRECT part (Lo Pro EDGE 7 from Rich, period.)
So, you'll spend minus ammount of money after all.
Drastic but smarty'.

Re: Question about Floyd rose 7s

The Edge 7 is pretty expensive I think an OFR-7 would be cheaper.

Re: Question about Floyd rose 7s

their both over $250 (plus more shipped to canada) so its hard, esp when I can get a used lisence floyd for probably like $50 on ****...

For not knowing if I am even going to be using it much on this guitar, I dont wanna spend $250 yet when Im so limited on money as it is

Re: Question about Floyd rose 7s

You're asking question about OFR on Ibanez site. Most comments here will direct you towards Edge or Lo-Pro Edge 7 from Ibanez. Duh!!!

I went though similar choices with my own JS-7 built. I opted for the OFR-7, as I simply couldn't justify the rediculus amount that Ibanez charges for their trems.
e-bay is option, but then you have to be patient. (I wanted chrome 7 and they never show up on the bay).

So for me the choice was simple: Go OFR.

Look here:

http://guitarpartsdepot.com/Merchant...-Rose-Tremolos

And if you can't justify the expense, you should be opting for 7 string tremolo, but go with 7 string TOM or Fixed Bridge.

But with building custom guitar you should get best parts money will buy. It's not worth the effort otherwise. And what's custom guitar with cheap Chinese parts, it will end-up like any other crap Chinese guitar.

But are you building to build awesome custom, or just cause you think you will save some money.....cause......building always be more expensive then buying guitar off the shelves.

No money - no custom guitar.....simple as that.

WOW, now THIS is drastic.
This is exactly my point...
An to spend $229 on OFR7, i can choose EDGE7 for $250.
I thing Ibanez trems aren't more solid, just looks hotter!!!

In Holland I was looking at 250+ Euro with indefinite lead times. So then the choice is simple.

Do agree that Edge/Lo Pro Edge trems look the business.

Re: Question about Floyd rose 7s

You know, "licensed" does NOT equal crap all of the time, and all licensed trems are not created equal. The licensed Floyd 7 that Carvin uses is a fine trem, and $160 direct without the nut as well. So, a licensed Floyd may fit in an OFR cutout, or vice versa, but possibly not. An OFR7 will not fit without additional routing in a Carvin, because the OFR7 is smaller and differently shaped. You do really need to decide what trem you are going to use before routing. Don't look at it from an "upgrade down the line" point of view, just save yourself the hassle and do it right the first time. You don't want to have to reroute a finished body Nick.

FR has mentioned that their OFR7 is available for lefties or at least will be at NAMM2007.
