Question about J-Custom availability

I have searched on this forum for the answer to this question but have not been able to find it

Why are the J-Custom models only available to the Japanese market ?

It doesnít make much sense to me. I think if they were more easily available Ibanez would sell them by the bucket load. For me they occupy a niece in the market as a high quality, ticked out rock axe, thereís not much that can offer the looks, sounds, playability and build quality all in 1 package that these guitars can. At first I thought maybe they donít want to compete with their own signature models but surely they would make a bigger profit if they didnít have to give their artist a cut. Maybe they are worried Vai and Satch (correct me if I am wrong but I imagine these guys are the big sellers when it comes to signature Ibanez) would defect to another company if sales of their signature guitars went down ?.

Maybe I am being naive and canít see the bigger picture here ? (just to be clear my intention is not to have a pop at Ibanez)

Re: Question about J-Custom availability

Couse they suppose to be something special, limited and not availible to everyone. It's just Ibanez showing of:

"look we can make a beautyful top or inlay, but if You want one You should try to find it Your self."

Re: Question about J-Custom availability

I sort of get that but it doesn't make sense from a business point of view, after all, aren't Ibanez in it for the money (ultimately)

Re: Question about J-Custom availability

They're limited by the capacity of the few that have the skill to build them.

Re: Question about J-Custom availability

Well if you're really in it for the j-custom and you have the money, you would still be able to get it anyway. I can't afford a j-custom now, but when I do, I'll go ahead and order one from wherever I can get it from. The limited availability is what keeps them exclusive and special IMHO. If they're easily available, it doesn't feel that exclusive afterall, I guess from an owners point of view at least.

Righto. They can only make so many and they choose to only sell then in Japan. Ibanez is fully aware that if you really want one and are somewhere else, you can get one.

And, no offense, but you are off your rocker if you think that Ibanez would sell them by the "bucketload" if they were more easily available. These are high end guitars that are out of the price range of most people and, as I mentioned, you can already get them if you want them. Ikebe always has several in stock and they don't move that fast.

Don't let your Jonesing for one distort your perception of the market.

Re: Question about J-Custom availability

Then why don't they sell the JS BTB in the US?

They don't sell them in Japan anymore either, so it's kind of a moot point (check the Japanese Ibanez site, they discontinued them).

So they can't build enough of them to supply the rest of the world?
