Hey! I have a simple, if not dumb question, although since I don't know the answer I guess that makes me dumb

Are all RG bodies basswood?

Just as Phantom said - most are but, not all... it usually varies by body type i.e. RGA/T/D,etc.

The RG520 is Mahogany with a Sapele veneer top.
I'm sure there are others.

Yes, some were made in alder and agathis.
I own an alder purple neon 550.

I did not know this! I thought all RG550s were basswood. How were the alder and agathis ones differentiated?

Do you notice any tonal differences from your basswood rg's? How would you describe it?

I have myself convinced I want an alder rg with a maple neck and fretboard because of how good my strat w/ that build sounds.

You're not going to find that though! I know I've wanted an alder RG, I ended up building a custom. The RT and AT models are alder from memory, but you will be ditching the Floyd Rose setup for a strat type bridge.

Re: Question: are all RG bodies basswood?

I have an RG neck Id love to use for something different, was thinking about a mahogany body, so obviously would have to be aftermarket.

I have an '88 and a '90 RG 560, both basswood.

Back in 94, you could get an RG570CT which did have an alder body, ape eek and pau ferro board...

an ape eek?????

I know there's a couple of hard to find ones, just couldn't remember what they were. Still not a maple fretboard though.
