Question regarding similarities between S771 and S521 guitars!
Hey everyone, I'm extremely new to using this forum and this is actually my first post. Bear with me please. I need the opinion and suggestion of someone who has played several of the S series guitars, or can at least tell me what MAJOR differences would be between two of them.
Okay, so I've found my main direction in music and I decided that my third guitar would be an Ibanez. I ordered an S771PB, which is a fairly new model (Fixed bridge). It's amazing and it's a blast to play. I love the feel of it! However, I can't seem to get over the HSH configuration. For one, I don't really use the split/single coil positions as much as I use bridge/neck. My pick always hits/scrapes the single coil pickup and it's difficult for me to find a comfortable picking spot.
My last guitar was an Epiphone Les Paul so I grew accustomed to the HH setup with the gap in between. If I don't try a couple different guitars, I won't find my perfect guitar. The process of elimiation has helped a lot, and now I know that I'm looking for an S model with a fixed bridge, and HH setup.
I have been looking at the S521 and it seems that it has everything that the S771 has, just without the poplar burl top or single coil. The hardware is the same, humbuckers are the same, neck is the same, mahogany body, etc. The only thing is that it's significantly cheaper than my 771. Is what the 521 lacks simply cosmetic or does EVERY little part of the guitar truly contribute to the overall tone? If anyone can help me out with this, I'd greatly appreciate. I really want that S521....
