Radius guitars... so whats different about these than a JS?

I saw the radius guitar in Rich's new catalog scans.. never knew they existed, or what people were talking about when the radius was mentioned. Looks alot like a js to me?

they looked sweet anyhow... I've never seen anyone who owned one though? didn't sell well?

The JS is based on the Radius. The Radius came first, and Joe liked it, so he used it with some mods to create his perfect guitar. They had more options, electronics, hardware, and colour wise. But I think the JS just beat it out of the running. Ask Rich as to why the JS is so cool.

Essentially the neck profiles are alot different and the quality placement is differents. The radius is to the js what the rg is to the jem. Same basic style, different quality and options. I wish they would get rid of the s series and revive the js. Most people think the s series is what the js is based on which is kind of funny

Keep in mind that the quality level overlaps a LOT. A JS100 is an inferior instrument to a 540R (no question), and a JS1 or JS1000 only slightly superior overall, (IMO).

I personally like the feel & sound of the 540R *better* than the JS1000, but I'm in the minority. One thing's for sure - if you want a quality "Satch axe" on the cheap, a used Radius is tough to beat.

totally agree, is alot more on the name than on the actual quality.

I like the feel of the neck on my 540R much better than the JS.
