Rebuilt RG470FM

Hey everyone - I picked up this '95 RG470FM on the cheap a couple of weeks ago. There aren't alot of pictures of this model out on the web, so I figured I'd post some here. I decided to give it a kick in the pants and added a D-Sonic, Pro Track, and an Air Norton. Alot of hardware had to be replaced, but the body and neck were in really good condition. It plays very well even though I've read here that early 90's Korean models aren't that good. The Lo-TRS II will have to do until I get a hold of a Cosmo OFR. It has a nice chevron flame top (I couldn't get good pics of the grain) and the build quality is excellent. Here's some pics:

How do you like the Pro Track in the middle position? I'm curious because I'm getting on put in my PGM301 Jester right now.

Look great, in fact IMO it's the best looking guitar in your collection.

But OFR in cosmo? I don't think they make 'em.

Re: Rebuilt RG470FM

Thanks for the compliments . I learned alot working on this guitar. I would still be trying to get the pickups wired if it wasn't for the help I found on this forum. The Pro Track is a nice balance between the other pickups and complements them well, and I really enjoy how they sound. Yup, I probably won't find a cosmo OFR, but I've read here somewhere that Gotoh might make their version in cosmo black for sale only in Japan. Not sure how I'd find one tho...

Love the color. How much did you get it for?

Re: Rebuilt RG470FM

I purchased the guitar via a Craigslist ad for $120 - and dropped just about double that into it in hardware and pickups. I'm in for less than 400 bucks though, and I figured it would be a great guitar to check out the pickups that I've read about. The impressive thing is that even though it is an inexpensive Korean-made version of the RG, the body and neck are in very good shape considering the condition of the original pups, rings, pegs, etc. that were on it. Amazing that wood can endure more of the elements than metal when done right ;-)

Re: Rebuilt RG470FM

You can get Cosmo Black (CK) Gotoh OFR's in the Japanese market. For example, pick the page translator of your choice (unless you read Japanese) and go to:

http://www.cocosound.jp/cocosound/gotoh/bridges.htm

Scroll down until you get to model #GE1996T. It's available in CK. A little over 18,000 yen, or around $150 - $160.

Wow, I am digging that colour with the binding and the maple fretboard.

I'll kibbitz on this one because I have two RGs with the Pro Track in the middle. The Pro Track is my middle pickup of choice because it has a great tone curve (B:6.5, M:6.5, T:5.5) and the output (275 mV) balances well with higher-output pickups, so you still get more mellow tones, but without a huge dropout.

I have actually used my Pro Track middle on its own for certain songs where I didn't necessarily want to switch channels or settings, but needed less output and less treble.

Re: Rebuilt RG470FM

Hi there. I have the same guitar but I have a small crack on my neck. Is that the Wizard II? I'm having a tough time finding any info online so I can replace it.
