Recommendations on PGM Models?

After much debate and playing TONS of different guitars, I am ultimately back to Ibanez once again. I really am considering a PGM as my next guitar purchase since it has a similar body shape and pickup selection as the JEM, but with a few fixed-bridge options. I think I'd love a PGM500, but wanted to get some input from owners on what their opinions of the guitars are. I'm really interested in hearing about the pickup tones with the wood and the neck profile. I have a Jem7VWH as my main axe and feel the neck is just about perfect. How do the PGM's compare in profile and thickness? Thanks!

I LOVE my 301. Something about the maple board that really makes it snap as well. The neck is not super thin but not super fat either. It's kinda hard to explain. It's perfect I tell you!

Re: Recommendations on PGM Models?

You should ask this question on the Racer X boards. They have a whole forum dedicated to PGMs.

301s don't seem to be as "popular" as say the 800s or Anniversary models but that's partially because they are move coveted be it for their tone or their rarity.

I used to have a 100 when they first came out and it was a great guitar...except for the trem. I have 2 301s now and I love them. I wouldn't mind having another PGM something but I don't need it.

There was a sweet PGM10th on the bay last week. That is the only PGM I want, but just to much money.

Cool, though the neck dimensions are identical to the RG1570 Prestige...only with maple 'board.

Re: Recommendations on PGM Models?

According to the US Ibanez site, the PGM301 has a slightly wider neck..

PGM NECK DIMENSIONS
Scale 648mm/ 25.5"
a : Width at Nut 43mm
b : Width at Last Fret 58mm
c: Thickness at 1st 18mm
d : Thickness at 12th 20mm
Radius 430mm
24-fret PGM Prestige neck is 2mm thicker than our super-thin Wizard necks.

WIZARD Neck Dimensions
Scale Length: 648mm/25.5"
Width At Nut: 43mm
Width At Last Fret: 56mm
Thickness At 1st Fret: 18mm
Thickness At 12th Fret: 20mm
Radius: 430

A current PGM301 neck feels different than an RG1570. They changed the dimensions on the PGM301 neck a few years ago.

Re: Recommendations on PGM Models?

These are the current dimensions on the UK Ibanez website:

PGM 301:
Scale 648mm/25.5"
a : Width at Nut 43mm
b : Width at Last Fret 58mm
c: Thickness at 1st 18mm
d : Thickness at 12th 20mm
Radius 430mmR

RG1570
Scale 648mm/25.5"
a : Width at Nut 43mm
b : Width at Last Fret 58mm
c: Thickness at 1st 18mm
d : Thickness at 12th 20mm
Radius 430mmR

We seem to have lost 2mm somewhere...

they mishaped THICKER with WIDER. that's the WIDTH, not the thickness. damn Ibanez, still typos in catalogs after 30 years!

btw guys, we were talking about thickness, and that's 18 to 20mm either on US and European sites.

We're also talking about the different neck feel, so width will play a part...che ne dici?
