Replacement of 22 fret on my Ibanez

I recently bought an S520EX and because I'm not used to having so much money in my pocket and it's a long time since I had a decent guitar I basically bought the best I could find on offer among three shops istead of hunting around for exactly the right guitar. One thing I overlooked in my desperation was the fact that this is a 22 fretter.
How would I go about replacing the neck with a 24 fret? Where can I get an ibanex neck from? Will I have to cut the body away at the seat?
Another thing... This axe is quite bassey, very little top end. Is there a way of adding some treble to it?

Re: Replacement of 22 fret on my Ibanez

There are lots of threads in this forum about converting from one neck type to another (22 fret to 24 fret; non-AANJ to AANJ, etc). I'd suggest a search. But the bottomline is that this is not a straightforward conversion. You would almost certainly be better off starting over with another guitar -- especially since you're not happy with the tone either.

If the guitar is near new, why don't you try swapping it for an RG at the store you bought it from? Or sell it and look for a used RG? I think the 24-fret RG520 (last made in 2001?) would be the most similar to the S520 (mahogany body, HH pickups, LoPro), and they pop up used and reasonably cheap. That guitar was very well regarded here at JemSite for "most bang for the buck."

Thumbs up Re: Replacement of 22 fret on my Ibanez

Thanks for that Bert.

I did do a small search but couldn't find anything. Perhaps I should have spent more time looking.
I've been thinking that what you suggest would be the only way. The S520 is a lovely guitar, very slick neck and nice gutsy pick ups, I just miss the extra two frets. To be frank I'd hate to do anything to it and for the cost it would probably be far more economical to buy myself a second hand RG. A Musician would be nice, particularly a 77, but the last time I knew of one being for sale it was mine. One of my more stupid decisions.

Many thanks for your comments.
