RG 2027 finish wear & tear...

surfed around the jemsite just now and looked over at my 2027 xvv bathing in the sun. then i got some flashbacks from some pics i saw
of a 777SP which had layed too long in the sun... looked like hell...
you probably know what i'm talkin' about...
anyhow, can the 2027 suffer similar consequences?
looks mighty good when the sun bounces off it, though

A major factor of the fluorescent JEMs fading was the nature of the finishes themselves. It's never a good idea to leave a guitar in direct sunlight, but it probably wouldn't damage the finish on your 2027X. I'd be more worried about the neck/fingerboard drying up and perhaps warping or cracking.

My 2027 hasn't seen much sunlight (as I'm a freakin' vampire practically. What's sunlight? ) so I can't say much on that. But as for Vaijem's comment, yup, seems like a more likely concern. HOWEVER... I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and the neck/fingerboard is rock solid. No problems. I do take very good care of the guitar, though. I usually lemon oil the fingerboard once a month, and the neck I refinished with a light coat of tung oil, and I'll lemon oil that about twice a year.

As for the finish, it's pretty, but damn delicate. They should've used more coats of clear. IMHO

So you're gonna bring the 2027 to the beach this summer
