Is the RG 470 the same(other than the bridge)than the 500's?

I know the bridge is different, and it has a wizard II but everything else seems to be exact? Is the RG 470 worth getting(they are blowing out 470's for $239!!!! new!!!) and could i change the bridge to a real floyd without any problems? I already have dimarzio's to put in it,but from what i read the TRS has got to go! One last thing are these 470's essentially a 500 with a cheaper bridge or are they cheaper period

Well, you said it already. So the body shape is the only thing that's the same

Seriously, for that price (plus the $100 for the new trem), you can easily find a used RG5XX.

You would have to widen the cavity of the bridge...
I would try to find a RG 5series with the wizard neck...
But if you want to spend 250$ on a nice guitar I won't stop ya
I've got a RG 470 that's been played to it's limits...and honestly i still love him, but the bridge just plain out sucks...and I've never changed cozz I was too lazy

the original floyd wont have to be widened at all. The body size of the 400 series and below is all around a little smaller, and also hase the really cheap input jack. Basically get a used 500 series off ebay for the same amount money. I would only soup up a 400 if it was very dear to me

as sniperfrommars mentioned, the output jack is really cheap. In fact, i reckon the 470 output jack is cheaper than the 3xx or below serires; the jack plate is made out of plastic and should have fragile written over it. The blakc paint stripped from it in one month, and it cracked after 4 months. Time to order a new one from Ibanez.

Most of them are pot metal or die cast at best. I wish they made rgs with the angled jem input jack. Does it really cost more to make? Maybe a little but still. Any rg ever had the angled jack guys?

I have a 470 and I like it a lot. I'm dreaming of a pretige model but for now the 470 will do.

The bird inlays where pretty cheap to do but the Lo Pro cost me a bit more .
There's also a Di Marzio Paf Pro and Fred in there .
I tried a JS 1000 before doing this mod but i just could't part with it , the neck feels so good and the JS 1000 didn't feel the same for some strange reason , black is a nice colour for a JS anyway so...
Im happy

I love my 470 as well. So far, i put a Duncan TB-6 in teh bridge, thinking of getting a '59 in hte neck. Although the trem still sucks, im saving up for an OFR or maybe an Edge. (Being around US$100 in debt with my parents and US$50 in debt with friends doesnt help!) Even though ive only owned it for 4 months, it has that sentimental value.
