RG 550 Reissue, Prestige?

So I was wondering, mine came with a bunch of prestige stuff, like the booklet, the bag of tools, pretty much the same things that came with my 2003-4 Universe, so are they prestige or not?

Technically,no they're not prestige. But that's a good thing in my opinion.

They're made to the original 550 specs, with the addition of reinforcement rods in the neck (I think they were titanium)

BTW....BAD A$$ guitar man!!!!!

Re: RG 550 Reissue, Prestige?

I was in GC the other day, and they had one of these. I thought it was one of the new Indo Ibanez and didn't give it much of a look. Going back tomorrow! ^ ^;

Unfortunately the GC salesman didn't know much about it either, he got it down off the wall for me and then ran off to do something else. x.x

They're Prestige quality but not labeled as Prestige. If I'm not mistaken, the titanum reinforcement system came about because they wanted to reproduce the super thin Wizard 1 that came on the 550 originally. These were also listed in the Prestige section of Ibanez's website, as were the RG770DX reissues. The 20th IMO is comparable to an RG15XX series. It's personally one of my favorites.

mike570 has the right answer . . . I second his whole post. The re-issues were made in the Fujigen plant with all the Prestige-branded guitars.

Peace

Re: RG 550 Reissue, Prestige?

the 20th are MIJ as mentioned so they are prestige quality, just without the logo (probably because the originals didnt have that logo so the re-issue didnt, obviously in 1987 prestige range didnt exist). So yeah class it as a prestige, it comes withe Prestige manual.

the 25th anniversary models however I believe are more like the premium range and not MIJ??? I maybe wrong there, anyone care to add input about the 25th anniv models for the RG570 and S guitars?

20th Anniversaries. No, not "Prestige," but of that quality; MIJ at Fujigen.

25th Anniversaries. No, not "Prestige," not MIJ; Premium level guitars. Good or bad? That's up to you.

Re: RG 550 Reissue, Prestige?

I recently purchased and installed a 770 reissue neck on an Indo Saber, and the neck is similar to a prestige in quality and playability but the fret ends are traditional square like the originals. It is a great feeling neck regardless.

When I was shopping around I played quite a few guitars, a couple 25th anni's. They don't compare to the 550, not even close.

I've read a few places that the Premiums come with rolled fret edges, and I gotta say, the Indo guitars I played had the roughest frets I've ever played on, it didn't intonate very well, the tone just wasn't there.

Re: RG 550 Reissue, Prestige?

I have a DY 550 XX. It is very well made. I would say Prestige quality. I tried a 25th anniversary with the intent to buy it. It was horrid. The paint had dirt specks. The headstock was poorly painted as well. I would have said it was counterfeit but it was at the dealer with it's twin also same level of crap. The XX neck is so much better.

My 2 cents get a Japanese made Ibanez.

Re: RG 550 Reissue, Prestige?

I keep hearing the term "prestige quality". Is that supposed to have some sort of meaning??

Do people believe that the word "prestige" somehow imbues guitars with a better quality than other MIJ Ibbys???

It's a marketing campaign - the same as the "Premium" label.
I love my RG921. I used it on my last two gigs, I've been using it solely on the album I'm working on, and I'll probably use it on my next gig.
I didn't like the RG920 or the 25th very much. I was okay with the UV70 but it probably sounds better by merit of having that seven string resonance.
IMO I think Ibanez should remake the RG1570 and RG1550 as Premiums, slap an Original Edge on them, paint them in solid colors, and price them in the $750 to $850 region to recapture that spot the RG15xx models had in 2007-08. Maybe $900 if they put in the Tone Zone / True Velvet / Air Norton combo. The Dimarzio / IBZ pickups are great though I think.
