RG buyers guide

So i dont know anything about RGs at all really. I have been looking for an older model S but gave up because i thought it might be cool to try out the RG instead.

So i would like a RG and i have no idea what i should get. I know what i want but i dont know what that is if that makes since.

I want a RG with a good trem (floating), a pick guard(just so i can take it off and put a custom swirled one on), 24 frets would be nice, and it has to be all black.

Thanks sorry for my ignorance.

Re: RG buyers guide

damn that's easy.

1. RG 550 black , rosewwod, or maple board. try your luck on Ebei. it's not rare.
2. RG 2550 Z, brand new
3. RG 2450 MZ, brand new

Re: RG buyers guide

I should have mentioned i dont really wanna go much above 400 just because i intend on modifying it a lot.

Swirled pick guard, green knobs, green switch, headstock covers, new pickups (Evo s maybe)

Yes, the 20th is the 550 reissue. You won't get a reissue for $400, but you can snag an older 550 if you are watchful.

There was just one for sale here for a bit less than $400.

Re: RG buyers guide

not very hard to get a black ibz I agree the 550, I'd go for maple board but the 20ths have better made necks imo so I'd go for that too

Re: RG buyers guide

Yer id suggest the 550 original in black also. Only trouble I think is the old style neck joint. Although, Ive only played an old style neck joint on my strat and it gets in the way. Perhaps on the Ibanez Rg and Jem models that neck joint is better designed to stay out of the way?

Re: RG buyers guide

Wow. These are some expensive guitars. I dont wanna go overboard here i have never even owned a RG to know if i like them. I have played hundreds of them and liked some. How do i know whats what when it comes to these things. Which trems are good. I have a low pro II and a ZR both of which i like (the low pro II being my favorivte. I really think yall over estimate my RG knowledge. I just want one to tinker with.

the older 550's aren't expensive, I think any RG you get you will love more than anything

Re: RG buyers guide

that's not a problem dude, if you are first timer in RG, try to stick with RG5XX series, no more no less.
Most of the RG 5XX series got all the 'standard' for 'what an ibanez should be' such as ;
edge/ lo pro edge trem
stud locks
wizard neck
V series pickups
and of course, superb craftmanship of MIJ.

Re: RG buyers guide

With the 550 theres not to much you have mod, change the pickguard if you want change the pups to evo's, breeds, etc then your set and they look spectacular without mods, the neck is cumfy (for me, other people think its to thin try an orginal wizard 1st) nice peice of history cheap. the etra 400 is worth it imo.

If you only knew the power of the RG!!!

For me there is no other guitar. I like looking at others and I like playing them until I play my 560 and then I forget what the others felt or sounded like and feel really happy.
