RG collectors...?

Do you consider a 80's RG to be more desirable if it has the original V1, S1, V2 pickups?

Re: RG collectors...?

I prefer 80 RGs as their golden era, but V series pickups were never put into consideration as I'm going to replace them anyway.

Re: RG collectors...?

The guitar itself isn't really more desirable that one with a V7-V8 setup, but I think the pups themselves are.

Re: RG collectors...?

The V1 and V2 are considered better pickups than their successors.
However, if I am going to play that particular guitar, I think I would end up replacing the pickups anyway, so it doesn't make a real difference to me.

Re: RG collectors...?

I would replace them as well, so if they have already been replaced that's a bonus!

Stock RG770's are my bag... I guess they are early 90's... (still considered golden era)

The "F" series pickups are bada$$...

Good to know. I had a '85-90 RG560 with the stock pickups back in the late '80s. I remember them as being very hot!

Re: RG collectors...?

I love the stock V2 bridge in my 20th RG. The V1 and S1 are okay but I keep them in to keep them matched with the V2.
Having them on one guitar is enough, though. All my other guitars except for the RG7321 have Dimarzios; and the 7 will eventually get them too.

Re: RG collectors...?

There will probably come a day when an all original RG from the 80s will be worth more, because everybody else will have changed out the pickups, however that time is a long way off yet
