RG model comparison HELP!

I am new to Ibanez guitars...have rented a Rg770DX and liked it although found it heavy. I have the chance to buy one of the following used and have no idea what is what. I know I like to hear harmonics so maybe you can point in the right direction.

I can get a used RG370dx, RG350DX,RG350M and an S 320 (Yes I know not many on here like the S series).

I was blown away my a you tube video of both the RG370DX and the S 320 but have no idea what is what.

help!

thanks,
Rob.

Re: RG model comparison HELP!

Those RGs are basically the same. There might be some tonal differences due to the pickguard on the 50s and the maple fingerboard on the 350M, but that will probably not be too extreme. Even two guitars with the same specifications never sound exactly the same. If you would like to have an RG and you have to pick on of these three, I'd pick the one you liked the best looks-wise.

I'd go for the S320. I don't know what's not to like about them. It's light, ergonomic and has a very usable tremolo.

Re: RG model comparison HELP!

If you can, try to get a used S540, if not, get the S320.

Re: RG model comparison HELP!

well, if you are thrilled by the 770DX, then you go buy 3XX series, I think you went to the wrong direction.
this is my story ( truly happened) :
looong time ago, i played my friend's RG 550LTD, got a blast by that guitar.
For financial reason, I did not go after the same 550LTD, but buying RG250 instead. It's my very first Ibanez guitar.
I thought, I can buy a cheaper model, saves a lot, and I could upgrade the guitar by changing the pickups anytime, then I could match his guitar...
I was wrong..
Everytime I went to his house, I hated my guitar more and more, why?
because his guitar feels and sounds much better than mine.
Of course the Wizard II type neck on my 250 can't beat that original wizard neck on the 550.
not to mention the Lo-Pro edge on 550 vs my lousy Single locking one.

that's my story.

sorry , forgot to add :
in conclusion : you like the 770DX , go for it, don;t look for substitution.

Edge or Lo Pro Edge depending on production year.

Re: RG model comparison HELP!

Yes, many mid 90s RG models, but that's Ibanez's fault.

Re: RG model comparison HELP!

I'm surprised no one mentioned the reissue:

http://www.ibanezrules.com/new/rg770dx.htm

If you're in the market for an RG350 or a RG370, that might be a bit pricey. Keep in mind that the RG770DX you played is probably the quality equivalent of a MIJ Prestige or reissue from today.

I'd suggest a used RG550 if you wanna go easy on the cash. Maybe an actual used RG770DX, but I'm not sure what those usually go for. They also seem pretty rare.

Re: RG model comparison HELP!

Everybody probably already figured out the RG770DX wasn't within his price range
