RG Premium or Prestige

I want to buy a new guitar,
ibanez RG premium with Ibz dimarzio
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_...131&color=CL01

or RG prestige with Dimarzio air norton and tone zone
this model :
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_...260&color=CL01

The most attractive for the price is the premium, for this reason, it's my first choice.
But I'm undecided, your advice ?

Thank you very much.

Re: RG Premium or Prestige

Definitely agree. If you have the money, it is no contest, choose the Prestige. I also quite like that 652 in Koa, much more than the 970, and that is ignoring the difference in quality.

If it were me, and I chose the 970, I would be kicking myself forever after whenever I saw the 652.

Re: RG Premium or Prestige

If it were me it would depend on the spread in price between the two. Here in the US the RG970 is about $900 (Sweetwater has an RG870, a close equivalent) and the RG652K is about $1,400. I don't know if that spread is wider in France.
The first is a good guitar but not as nice as the second.
If I were looking for a good prime guitar I'd save for the RG652K.
If I wanted a less expensive yet good gigging guitar I'd get the second.
Depends on what you want of course.
If you can wait and save I'd get the second.

Re: RG Premium or Prestige

While I don't own either of those specific guitars I do own a Premium with very similar specs and a Prestige with almost identical specs and I completely agree with the other posts above... The Prestige is by FAR the better option.

Re: RG Premium or Prestige

The Premiums were nice for the money when fully sorted when they came out, because the Prestige prices were so high, the dollar yen conversion was at crazy levels. When the Prestige prices came down, it almost made no sense, and that's why Premiums disappeared from the US.

That said, I'm about to have an "any Premium in stock at COST" sale, as is, plus shipping of course, but I could use that whole shelf they're taking up!

Will there be an official announcement of the sale or has it already begun?

Re: RG Premium or Prestige

My whole gripe with Premiums is that I thought they were a *little* overpriced. The RG920 was $900 new I think and my belief is they should have been $750-800. I think that they would still do well with a few models in the $700-800 range the RG15xx's used to occupy. But that's my opinion.
Or maybe some niche of different spec models? I'm really digging the RG970 at American musical with the wenge / bubinga neck. I used to play a soundgear with that neck and it was awesome!

You ignore that at the time the base price on a Prestige RG was $2666, MAP at 2k when the Premiums came out. And there was no 1550 available in the US.

Hey Rich, I was meaning to ask if the Prestige price drop had anything to do with dropping the Titanium reinforced necks? My RG3250 has the badge on the back of the headstock, but my RG752LWFX doesn't and was cheaper. I'm not sure if the badge was purely cosmetic and that the 752 has the titanium as well, but I doubt it. Thanks for your knowledge!

The case alone sells Prestiges in my opinion OP. Plus the multi-tool, which is even cooler now!

You know, I kinda felt the same way until I bought an MIM Jackson Dinky. I got it for $1k. The 920 I got from Rich sorted and shipped for the same price was a far better guitar. The EZII is a FAR more stable bridge than Jacksons FRT02000. I had to replace that POS with an OFR........ now it's a $1200 guitar that still doesn't play as well as the Premium did. It's pretty, but not a whole helluva lot more.

Any saving in manufacture show up 4 fold in list pricing [if they want to pass it along] so there's no way to say it didn't have anything to do with the current pricing.

If you think that dinky is prettier than the 920 I'd hate to see your taste in women

No, I still think the 920 is better looking but the Dinky is pretty damn close. There's actually a lot of green in the burst that doesnt come out in pics.

This is the pic Sweetwater took of mine before I picked it up.

and here's a better "porn" pic of it. I did the one above for comparison sake.
