RG Prestige Pickguards

Hello all,

I am finally getting around to doing the upgrades to my rg's. I have an RG1451 in plaster white that i want to put a black (possibly pearl) pickguard on (stock is white). I also have a rg2550 cosmic black that I want to put a white or white pearl pickguard on.

I was hoping that i could just swap the stock guard between the two guitars but unfortunately 3 of the screw holes will not line up properly. The guards have the same size and shape, but the screws don't quite match up.

I've checked out terrapin and pickguard paradise, but I'd have to spend almost $100 on each pickguard to have them custom made.

Ebay has some decent prices but i'm afraid they all have the indonesian holes and won't fit either.

I decided to post here, hoping to gain insight from the fine folks here at Jemsite. Please share your experiences in replacing RG prestige pickguards. Thank you.

Re: RG Prestige Pickguards

If you're swapping them over is it really a big deal drilling a few new holes? The pickuard will be covering up the old holes, so its' not like the change is going to be noticeable or anything.

Re: RG Prestige Pickguards

Thank you for the reply. I didn't want to drill new holes, but I guess it doesn't really matter. I'd just have to fill the old holes first before doing the new ones.

I went ahead ordered up a couple of the cheap pearloid guards from China. I should have them in a couple of weeks. Only $20 shipped for a black pearloid and a white pearloid. Not much of a loss if they don't work out.

Have you tried these folks? I've bought from them before:

pickguard paradise seems to make some nice ones as well.

Unfortunately, they're out of business now...... I got their last clear guard on my swirl.

I would highly suggest sending a template to Nate at Perle guitars

Thank you all for the input. I really appreciate it. Would a pdf scan of the original pickguard suffice as a template?

I'm finding it hard to make a final decision on the color without having them right in front of me. Looks like I'll be buying a few and trying them out. I guess I can always sell the runners up on the bay.

I held an aged white pearloid strat guard against the galaxy black 2550 and I'm not sure I like the pearl against the sparkly black. Straight white pearloid might be different to my eyes, we'll see. W/B/W may end up being the winner on the galaxy black. I just have to try the pearloid first before I can be sure, haha.

Hi Powertube,
Which prestige rg's have you purchased guards for? Did you order for 550 or Jem?

Thanks

That sucks...is that the one they were selling on ebay? If so I almost snagged it myself.

I have a clear one from Nate on my new guitar. It fits well, but I would have rather had it with beveled edges in hindsight. I'll do it on the next one I guess. For 25 bucks, it's a great deal and it does look nice. I'm happy with it.

Nate needs to grab some of that edge-lit acrylic and make some out of that.
I'm going to have to talk to him about it.

Nate has one you can print out to test fit on yours if that will help. He's got a link somewhere on his site.

Some more options here:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f18/ol...rd-123706.html

I was very specific with what I wanted (tommyplays) but you are looking @ $50 a plate, however my opinion is it was worth it. Much better that the stock plates Ibanez supply.

Very happy with the end result, although had a few teething issues.

Yes, that's the guy I couldn't think of.
And agreed, they are the nicest ones I've seen.
The edges are nicely polished and beveled the way I think they should be.
He makes them out of a lot of different materials too.

Your welcome, hope you get sorted out with what you want.

Now that you got myself thinking have been locking for another custom guard myself for a project that is on-going but will wait and see how it turns out before ordering anything.

All the best.

Does it fit RG550s also?
