RG that's not Basswood?

Does Ibanez make an RG that's not Basswood. I've never been into the sound of basswood, but I like the RG's overall feel. If I was looking to buy one, is there a non-basswood Ibanez RG? Maybe something mahogany?

Not in the current line-up i think. The closest thing is the RGA-series that are mahogany, JEM7V is Alder and most J-Customs are mahogany i think.

Yup. I was going to mention the RG321.
Also if you go into the used market you can find the RGT series and the ultra sweet RGR421.
The MTM1 and 2 are also mahogany and the APEX2 in the 7 string department.

Just the RGA420Z.

Or you could look for used RGT320 or RGT220.

Re: RG that's not Basswood?

In Japan they get more options so if you find a store that imports you can get models like this.

RGT3120 and the RG3120 are both Prestige models that are mahogany with maple tops.

Re: RG that's not Basswood?

I have my eye on an RG470MH mahogany oil finish. I mostly like the look of it and the price range. I am currious though how the tremolo series compares to a premium. Does anyone here own one? What can you tell me about it good, bad or ugly?

Re: RG that's not Basswood?

I tried that RG 470 MH on local shop and was really exited about it beforehand.

But after playing it, I was really disappointed. Now I understand why RG's in genera are not made of mahogany. See, mahogany works great on low weight Ibanez S bodies with great resonance...but in RG it felt like dead wood. Same goes to RGA 32 MOL. Resonance on those was really bad. Could also be that indonesian factories use lowest quality mahogany.

It can also be that mahogany doesnt sound so good in body shape and weight of RG. So test before buy!
