RG1420F vs RG655

Hi all -

I'm looking to add a rosewood board guitar to my arsenal (currently have RG1560 and RG920). Money aside and pickups (I'll swap out accordingly), which of the two is better in terms of quality, RG1420F or RG655?

thanks

jeff

Re: RG1420F vs RG655

Do you want HH or HSH? Edge pro is known to be a very good Bridge but the 655 has the Original Edge. I've never used an Edge pro so I can't personally speak to it's quality.

The RG655 is basically a 550 with AANJ and full dimarzio pups (Air norton, True velvet, Tone Zone) and the Prestige wizard neck.

IMO, if you want versatility, 655. If you want a nicer flame top and only 2 Humbuckers, get the 1420F. Personally I like them both but I have so many HSH I'd choose the 1420F.

Also, are you buying the 1420F new or used?

Thanks for the info. The 1420F would be used.
If the 655 had a maple board, I'd be all over it. Actually there is a 91' RG550 I might get instead of either of these...

I dunno man, you want a rosewood board, I'd say go for the 655. You get Dimarzios flagship pickups built in for a very good price (until now these pups were only in the 3250s, which were ibanezes most expensive prestiges until the ZPS was discontinued). Most of my Ibbies are rosewood boards (2550, 350, 560, 685) and they play great. I love the look of maple boards but rosewoods are good as well. I'd say get yourself a rosewood and be happy with it

Of course this is coming from someone who has the most beautiful flame maple fingerboard on my Carvin JB200 so what do I know?

Original Edge, Super Wizard neck, and coming stock with the Tone Zone - True Velvet - Air Norton combo; the RG655 is by far the better choice of the two. It's by far the best value RG Ibanez has put out in the last several years IMO. If I didn't have an RG20th already loaded with Evo's I'd be all over it.

Now if they'd only release those here or make the Genesis collection a regular model line and not just some stupid limited edition line I'd be set

Personally I like the 655 because of the AANJ. If the GCs had the AANJ I'd be soooo happy.

I have played a couple GCs before, they are REALLY nice... But the Golden era neck finishes are soooooooo nice

Would you get say a 91 RG550 over the GC or 20th RG550?

I actually bought 2 golden era Ibanezes RIGHT BEFORE the GCs came out last year. a 1993 RG550 CA and a 1990 RG560 PN TBH, I'm much happier with the REAL golden eras because the GCs feel like prestiges with a square heel neck joint. For difficult to find models, like an RG770, yeah I'd buy a GC because I can't find 770s over here very easily. However, I'd much rather buy another RG685
