RG1421 Dimarzio wiring(diffierent diagrams)

Just put a crunch lab in my new to me RG1421. It sounds great but i just wanna make sure i wired it right. I am getting two different diagrams for this configuration and am wondering why they are so different. This guitar is 2 humbucker, 5 way switch, 1 vol and 1 tone.
this is the one i went with and hope its right
http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/defaul.../rg320mod1.pdf
the green/ground and black/white wires are tied together and red is hot

Why is this one so freaking different for the same configuration?

this one the black/ground and red/green wires are tied together and white is hot.

I don't get it. Which one is right?

Not familiar with the Crunch Lab but I don't see why it would be any different from another 4 wire Dimarzio.
The first one, the one from Hoshino, is the one I run with.

they're the same diagrams.the only difference is if you want to run the neck pickup in phase or out of phase.........

If it sounds good and everything works the way you want it to, you wired it right

Re: RG1421 Dimarzio wiring(diffierent diagrams)

They're in phase in both of them. Notice in one diagram, the north coils are on the neck side. In the other, the south coils are towards the neck. Electrically, these are exactly the same. When you flip pickups, you switch red with black and green with white. Instead of going through a long explanation, check here if you really want to know whats going on:

So, in the 320 diagram, the solid bar on your crunchlab should be on the bridge side.

Re: RG1421 Dimarzio wiring(diffierent diagrams)

so i do have the bar facing the neck and i must say that it sounds great. BUT, would it be better sounding or affect the sound at all to re-wire ala the second link?

Re: RG1421 Dimarzio wiring(diffierent diagrams)

The 4th and 5th position would sound different. It might not be that noticeable. Whether it sounds better or not, that'd be 100% your opinion. The 5th position would only sound different because the coils use different pole pieces, otherwise it wouldn't matter. Petrucci prefers the bar towards the neck, so I'd probably keep it that way.

Also, your 4th position might be out of phase. If you like how it sounds then there's no problem. If you think it sounds too weak and thin, we can figure out if it is out of phase or not and get it fixed for ya. Are the wires leaving the pickup both on the same side?

Re: RG1421 Dimarzio wiring(diffierent diagrams)

the wires are comming out of the pickups on the same side. (towards the wire hole in the body).
Come to think of it, I have a d-sonic and the wires come out of the other side of the pickup(i'm pretty sure anyway)

Re: RG1421 Dimarzio wiring(diffierent diagrams)

Then, you're good to go. I wouldn't touch the wiring.

I thought the D Sonic and Crunchlab had the solid bar on the same side. That's why I said it should be on the bridge side.

Enjoy the pickups.
