RG1527 vs RG7420

Basically my doubts are about the necks.

1.- I know that the 1527 has the Ultra neck which is a U neck profile and would like to know how is the neck profile of the 7420. Is it u shaped or is more like a regular flat profile Wizard?

2.- In this site "ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/RG1527" it says the neck was an Ultra Prestige from 2003 to 2008 and from the 2005 to 2009 changed to a 5-Piece Maple/Wenge. Did it conserved the same U shape?
Sorry if something is grammatically wrong or something like that.
Thanks .

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

I have previously owned an RG7620 (RG7420's had RG7620 necks) and an RG1527 at the same time.
The RG1527 I owned was a 2008 Royal Blue model. And the neck was very round. To me, it was in between a C and a U.
The RG7620 has a neck between a U and a D. Flatter. Broader shoulders. Felt thinner because of them (though it wasn't).
I liked the RG1527 neck a lot more. Yet I own the RG7620 and the RG1527 is somewhere else in the world.
Big mistake.
RG1527 > RG7620

As for the neck NAMES, they're just the Wizard 7 on the RG7620 and the Wizard 7 Prestige on the RG1527. Not sure about the earlier models but this was from at least 2008 and later.

The Ultra's were mainly for J.Customs.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

I saw a RG7420 on CL for $350 (with case.) Is this a good deal, or should I hold out and look for something cheaper? (I was looking for my first 7 string and wanted something inexpensive.)

Not a bad deal if it's in good condition.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

I have a RG7420 and it has the best neck I have ever played. I believe its a 2001 and it has a flat profile.

$350 with a case is fair. I think you start overpaying at $450.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

Resurrecting an older thread here, but...

I haven't owned a 7 string since I sold my 1991 UV7 a few years ago & now I'm GASsing a bit for another 7. Looking seriously at a RG7420. GC and Musicians Friend has them new for $499. Question is, is that a decent price for this guitar? I know I can find one cheaper on Craigslist or Ebay, but I think I want to go "new" this time. Haven't owned a new guitar in a while. So...$499 okay? Or no?

97 and 98 7620s had uv necks, just food for thought.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

Just looked on Ebay...1998 RG7620 in really nice shape for $399. I'd buy it right now if I didn't need to sell a guitar first to get the cash.

Edit: it's not as nice as I first thought but it's not bad, so the choices are...a 1998 7620 in "players condition" for $399 or a brand new 7420 for $499.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

players condition for 399 is much better deeal then 7420 for 499. That lo pro 7 is worth quit a chunk of change, certainly more then 100$.

edit: that "7620" on ebay has the lo pro swapped out for an OFR 7... not sure why someone would do that, but you should pass on that one.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

Oh, okay. Didn't notice that. Thanks. For the record, why wouldn't I want an OFR?

Re: RG1527 vs RG7420

The ofr is a good trem obviously, however its a replacement. The Lo Pro 7 is an EXPENSIVE item, much more then the floyd rose, so the value of the guitar should reflect that. Id pay 300 for it, sure, but anything over and your over paying imo.
